Mini Honeymoon (minimoon?!) in Edinburgh. What shall we do? Help!

We are off to Edinburgh after our wedding in a little over a week. Staying for 3 nights. Is there anything that we must see whilst we are there? I understand that there are nice bars and restaurants in Leith, already booked in for Saturday night at Harmonium which looks great Grin we also plan to do Mary Kings Close because I saw it on Most Haunted and it looks fun! The idea is really to mooch about sightseeing in the daytimes, hopefully eating nice lunches and maybe having a cocktail or two (!) and then head out each night. I heard Rose Street is the place to be? Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Friends have also told me that there's no need to bother with taxis as there are frequent reliable buses - is this true? We are staying at a hotel on East Market Street which I think is near Waverley Station.

Thanks for any tips - much appreciated Smile

That's what I was trying to say without saying it tbh calm. It a quirky diverse, interesting area and a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities which was great but because it's so diverse it can be dodgy pockets of people (drug, homeless, alcohol, issues) too!

I really loved living there but I also kept my self safe (as you do in a city) because there were dodgy people too.

I know I sound really negative but even now all these after Iv left I feel like an adopted leather Blush

Currently live in leith, avoid it especially leith walk it's a shitehole.
Go to dishoom for breakfast it's amazing, foundry 39 for burgers and they have deals on for drinks pretty much all week. usaquabae underneath Ryan's bar is a good wee bar.
Ghost tours on the royal mile that do the vaults and graveyard are the best ones.
Remember to bring loads of change for the buses they're £1.70 or you can get the app on your phone.
Dynamic earth is shit so is ocean terminal.
If you fancy Thai Chaophraya is the best Thai in the city but you have to book.
And Mary's milk bar on grass market has amazing icecream.😂

If you enjoy a steak, I'd recommend Chop House on East Market Street for lunch or dinner - it's in one of the arches and is lovely, both in food quality and atmosphere.

birds, I'm generally a big fan of castles and palaces but I just didn't really like Edinburgh castle (from the inside at least). There used to be a Starbucks on princes street with big glass windows overlooking the castle and it really is spectacular from there, especially at night. I did like the chapel though.

National museum of Scotland is a must.
Surgeons hall museum is good too.
Camera Obscura
Botanic gardens
Stockbridge for eating drinking and shopping
National portrait gallery
Writers museum
Wander down Royal mile to see Holyrood and Scottish Parliament building (looks like a bad council block of flats IMHO)
Carlton hill
George street bars and eateries
Harvey Nicks (a bit too brash for my liking preferred Jenners until taken over by the sports shop chain)
Just wander and take it all in-dress warmly though- can be really cold.
I love it came to uni and never left.
