What's in your handbag?

I'm in the market for a new handbag. I love the look of the bigger hobo style bag but I don't seem to carry much around with me these days as my kids are older. Don't need to take any work stuff with me either so I don't really need the space, I just like the look of them.

So, what's in your everyday handbag?

The usual purse, keys and phone.
Old receipts, paracetamol, pens various of, bits of loose change and a few half eaten packets of polo's.
Tbh, my purse has more rubbish in it than my handbag.

lucysmam · 05/03/2019 22:27

Purse
Keys
Random lighter I found this morning, probably my colleague's who occasionally asks me to chuck her fags in there before work
Work pass & whistle
Little bag with tampons, mini hair brush, nail file, plasters, paracetamol, ibuprofen, mirror (probably more I've forgotten)
Earphones
Deodorant for the days I'm staying at work after lunchtime (dinner lady - sometimes the smell of school dinner sticks to everything!)
Lollipop (not a clue...)
Power bank & wire

That's it. At the moment.

Quite often there's my travel mug, or water bottle, or dd2's water bottle, or paying in books, or cheque books. All manner of stuff really! Probably don't need most of it.

I hate carrying big bags unless I have work with me so I usually use a small across the body bag. I have a purse (card holder with compartment for change/notes), mirror/brush compact, lipstick, hair bobbles, phone, earphones and either glasses or contact lens case and eye drops. Sometimes umbrella, paracetamol, and portable charger.

I tend to have smallish saddle bags / cross body bags as I was fed up of carting massive things around. It kind of forces me to streamline what I put in there. I carry:

Purse
Phone
Keys
Work pass
Hand sanitiser
Lip balm
Pen
Foldaway shopping bag

Every couple of days I clear out the receipts and bits of paper and random stuff that ends up in there.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/03/2019 09:36

Too much shite.
About 5 different ( but nearly all the same shade ) lipgloss.
Handgel.
Purse
Hairbrush
Mints
Cereal bar
About 97 receipts (!)
Blusher.

MonoClue · 06/03/2019 09:43

Purse, phone, pack of tissues, vape pen, bottle of vape oil, keys, couple of lipsticks, small bottle of hand sanitizer, travel size hand wash and hand lotion, pack of antihistamines and my epi pen.
When I’m out with my daughter I also end up with her phone, purse and water bottle in there as well.

Lweji · 06/03/2019 09:51

Wallywobbles · 06/03/2019 09:57

I have a kind of double bag with wallet & keys and charger in small one that slips into larger one that has medical cards/ prescription wallet, stamps pouch, chèque books in. But with Apple Pay I now rarely even take my wallet. Sometimes just a charger.

ShabbyAbby · 06/03/2019 10:38

Purse, phone, keys, portable charger and Lead, lip balm, gaviscon minis, painkillers, antihistamines, a couple of pens, chewing gum

pushingdaisies · 06/03/2019 10:43

I have a rucksack that I take to work, current contents are:

Makeup bag
A book (sometimes two if I'm getting towards the end of one)
Loads of pads/tampons
2 cartons of apple juice
Pens
Tictacs
Painkillers
Eyedrops
Headphones
Keys
Lip balm
Work ID card & keys
Random bits of paper and receipts etc.

and I always put my phone in my coat pocket

dudsville · 06/03/2019 11:02

I'm of an age when i can no longer leave the house with out sanpro.
I use hand cream and lip balm liberally all day long.
Nail file,
Tissues (can't abide sniffling)
My own ink pen (hate the thought of sharing another's pen!)
Purse
Keys
Phone
Bag for life
When I go to work I'm away from home for 12 hours so i may also have food.

If women have traditionally had bags instead of pockets i wonder how things would be different. I like pickets for putting my hands in. I wouldn't like trouser pickets being stuffed with tissue, keys, phone and purse.

BayLeaves · 06/03/2019 19:44

When we're out:
1-2 nappies and some wipes, in a little pouch so I can change bags easily.
Sippy cup
Purse
House key
Phone

This has made me realise what a minimalist I am these days... It used to be absolutely stuffed with junk!

happyhillock · 06/03/2019 19:53

Key's, purse, phone, tissues, handgel and brolly, all i need.

BillywigSting · 06/03/2019 19:59

I have my (small) purse, phone, keys, lip balm and a folded up bag for life.

My bag is tiny. Smaller than dp's coat pocket.

I do have other bags that are much bigger though if I need to carry other stuff around. I usually just put my normal little one inside the bigger one rather than emptying it out though.

pontiouspilates · 06/03/2019 20:10

Purse, phone, glasses, brush, nurofen, hand sanitiser, lip. Balm, portable charger, notebook and keys.

TurnOffTheTv · 06/03/2019 20:15

Am the only person without a handbag???

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/03/2019 21:18

Wallet
Diary
Collapsible hairbrush
Pouch with tampons, tablets etc
Headphones
Pen
Makeup bag with a few bits in, including whatever lipstick I am wearing
iPhone
Tiny umbrella
Beanie hat

I also carry a separate tote bag for work with my lunch, pass/keys, toothbrush/toothpaste and my Kindle. Too much!

ohtheholidays · 06/03/2019 21:33

My phone
Purse
Tissues(a small pack)
Sugar free gum
A little pot with my suger in(I'm doing slimming world)
A tube of voltarol.
A little pack with several of my daily meds
Peppermint indigestion tablets
Sunglasses
A small hairbrush
A tube of handcream(it's from Kew Gardens)that I love
A small compact mirror
My Make up
A couple of pens
A small can of body spray.

To be fair I do tend to use everything that I carry in my bag at least 5 days out of 7.

If I wasn't ill(disabled)then I wouldn't need all of the meds, the pepperment tablets and voltarol and then my bag wouldn't be quite as full.
