Is anyone a hospital/surgeon’s secretary?

If so can you help me?

A month ago tomorrow I had an mri to see if any gallstones have been left behind after my gallbladder removal 18 months ago.

The surgeon had the results back on Friday 15th February. I know this as I called the surgeons secretary at the start of the following week to see how I am contacted with the results. She confirmed they were in and would give them to surgeon and he would be in touch both with me and my GP.

I called again on Wednesday 27th to check to see what was happening. I was told they were still on his desk but that she would chase him.

Still nothing through today so I call again to express concern as I am still in pain so if pain is not a result of leftover stones then I have another problem. She said they are still on his desk. She knew who I was. Didn’t have to ask my name which worried me more! She can’t give me the results but she clearly knows them. Is there anything I can do to move this along. I’ve been pleasant enough and apologized for bothering his secretary but I am worried. Thanks.

You need to contact PALS at the hospital. They will follow up for you. Google the hospital name and then look for them.

You can contact pals at the hospital, they can use their magic powers to shimmy it along. Or you can ask your gp if they have received a copy of the results and get it from them.

Secretaries are not allowed to give results out - they are not medically trained so all we can do is leave it in an admin like for the surgeon to look at and nag them to do their admin (and they will then dictate a letter of tell us to arrange a follow up appointment)

As a medical Secretary, we are not able to give out results. I would say contact Pals. I worked for a consultant who too sonlong to get back to a patient I advised them to go to pals

I PALS too or ask your GP to follow up as you're worrying maybe?!

Thanks all. I don’t think we have PALS in Scotland but will certainly check.
