Vaginal biopsy- local or general

Any experiences? My Gynae offers both procedures and my healthcare provider pays for either.

How painful is it with a local anesthetic? Gynae said more painful than a smear. My Gynae is male. So cant ask how it relates to childbirth.

I will have to revel by tube and train then drive from station home. Afterwards is this achievable?

thanks

You won't be able to travel home on your own by tube, train and then drive if you have a GA. You aren't allowed to drive for at least 24 hours after a GA.

I had a cervix biopsy (o think without anaesthetic but maybe with some local?) and it was absolutely fine. I don't know if a vaginal biopsy is the same though.

thanks Japonica good point.

Bicycle - google says the vagina has less sensation than the cervix. So it should be ok if you say cervix was ok.

I had a coil removed, biopsy, smear and new coil put in without any anaesthetic at all. Paracetamol beforehand (blocks pain receptors), ibuprofen for after (anti-inflammatory). There was no way I could have travelled on tube or driven afterwards though.

Good luck, hope yours goes as well as possible.

I felt a bit wobbly after but actually I was fine to go back to work. Just a bit crampy and sore.

I had a cervical "punch" biopsy and was able to drive myself home and carry on pretty much as normal. However, when I had cervical excision (LEEP) I was quite sore afterwards and needed someone to drive me home.
I had local for both and found it effective enough.

I had local, injection hurt like a bitch but totally fine after that. Afterwards, nurse let me have a little snooze in a bed until DH was ready to pick me up. Totally fine after.
