3 week long haul holiday: where to go?

We have 3 weeks of annual leave lined up for early October. Date is fixed due to our jobs. We are trying to work out where to go and going around in circles!

Complications: we’re trying really hard to have a baby with no luck. Who knows if we are pregnant by then but it would be sensible to keep it in mind (eg. Zika).

Big holidays we’ve done previously have been in Canada (Rockies) and South Africa (safari and Garden Route). Don’t want to go to Australia. Japan is out due to Rugby World Cup.

We like a mix of activities and chilling out. My husband loves photography and hates very hot and humid weather. I love prefer wilderness to cities.

With that in mind - where have you been that you’d recommend?

What about Thailand ? Not too humid and they have wilderness and beautiful places to photograph

Chile or Argentina. They're gorgeous and even though it's summer, I didn't find them warm that time of year.

Malaysian Borneo
New Zealand would be ideal - not hot, amazing scenery
Vietnam - trekking in Sapa

We had a great holiday to California that time of year a few years ago. We did a mixture of city, small towns, coast, national park. Yosemite was absolutely stunning in autumn.

Incidentally we were also trying very hard to have a baby and not having a very good time with it all.

California/Nevada road trip. Yosemite is amazing that time of year, Grand Canyon, some other amazing national parks, do Monterey and Highway 1 for amazing beach scenery and for cities chose between Vegas, San Fran or LA.

Took some of the best photos of my life on that trip.

It's a great time to visit the canyons of Arizona and Nevada.

NotGenerationAlpha · 05/03/2019 05:27

New Zealand?

scarus · 05/03/2019 05:53

AS PP said definitely California, great time of year.

With 3 weeks I'd add Utah as well (Zion/Bryce Canyon) - you can fly into St George or drive from Grand Canyon area.

Oct is v early spring in NZ in Oct so would be a little cold and disappointing I think.

I’d do California too, or any other USA road trip.

Bombalarino · 05/03/2019 12:50

Sri Lanka, lots to do and Zika free!

babysharkah · 05/03/2019 12:56

USA road trip

Magstermay · 05/03/2019 12:59

Sri Lanka as pp suggested, can look at wildlife/ lots of scenery for photography. Can chill at beach or pool if preferred.

Other option Peru, combo of cities, culture, photography and wilderness? Would need to be careful with altitude if pregnant. Can do a few days in the Amazon too?

Road trip round America?
