Proof of address for prrimary school admissions?

Evening all, we have had a message from our LA that we need to send proof of address for a reception place application (application sent in December before deadline including council tax ref). Its not a problem as we live one street from the school but wondered if this is normal for primary school? Does it signal the first choice is over subcribed? Thanks

Yes it's normal, it's to detect fraud.

No standard though we didn't have to give proof to the school until we were offered the place

Yes, it’s normal. It’s to prevent people pretending they live in catchment areas that they don’t actually live in.

Normal here. It's to stop people putting grandparents addresses down to try and get into better catchment areas.

Yes, completely normal, and council tax bill is usually the most convenient.

You'll need to prove your DC's DoB too - birth certificate or passport

I had to do this only because I was offered my second school choice first. Then a few weeks later I received a letter stating my child could have a place in my first choice if I could prove address with two different letters. (I did not appeal the original decision as I had no basis to do so, it was a shock to receive the place.)

When I attended the welcome day I questioned the head on the selection process and she told me the school is continuously oversubscribed and fraud is a massive issue.

From the original 30 selected a proportion could not prove address.

Great thanks glad its not thatthe school is definitely over subscribed, although we are 0.1 miles so hopefully fine.
I am actually a teacher that deals with intake into nursery and reception so should know this Blush. I check birth certs myself but never address proof so LA must deal with that here.
