EU abolishing Summer/Winter time

So changing the time every Spring and Autumn is now going to be abolished in the EU from 2021. Member States will choose to stay at one time only. So the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland could potentially have a difference of one hour for 6 months of the year. I wonder if the UK will follow. I think it could result in either very dark Winter mornings (if Summer time is kept) or very early Summer dawns (if Winter time is kept). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Pros and cons of Winter or Summer time being kept?

We should just stick with GMT. Anything else is nonsense.

In Scotland it would mean it not getting light till about 10am in mid-winter. The only daylight I see during that time of year is just before work.

There was an experiment with keeping BST from 1968-1971.
