Are over the counter things like Kalms any good?

DH is not well and has been in and out of hospital. He’s fine but this time it’s just completely sent me over the edge as hes some distance away this time.
I haven’t slept properly and I’m struggling with food (which just tastes like crap) and I got myself in a bit of a state crying a few times.
I know if I could sleep it might help and then I might eat a bit better. I tried a glass of wine which initially knocked me out but then I sat up the rest of the night.

I was thinking of buying some kalms, but are they just a waste of time?

The herbal sleeping aids usually work for me

user1493413286 · 04/03/2019 21:27

I’ve tried herbal sleeping tablets like kalms and they did help; maybe it was a placebo effect but as it worked for me I felt like it was worth the money.
Everything feels worse when you’re sleep deprived so starting with that should help other things then that in turn will help you sleep

Kalms work with me.

I don’t know if it’s real or placebo but it works so I don’t care!

Whereareyouspot · 04/03/2019 21:28

Placebo effect only

YogaWannabe · 04/03/2019 21:31

PrismGuile · 04/03/2019 21:34

Rescue remedy helps to chill me out very well and Nightol knocks me out cold.

I think rescue remedy is marginally better than calms, but both are really only placebos in my opinion. Might work on very mild anxiety but I don't think they touch anything more.

Agree with antihistamines to help you sleep - sominex or night nurse - getting some decent sleep will go a long way to make you feel better.

TiddlesUpATree · 04/03/2019 21:42

Night nurse is a wonderful thing.

Realitea · 04/03/2019 21:43

Valerian tablets are very good at relaxing you and helping sleep. So is ylang ylang, chamomile, lemon balm tea and valerian tea. Also try a meditation app like headspace or calm.
I hope one of these will help Flowers

Realitea · 04/03/2019 21:44

Sorry I meant kalms tablets which have valerian in them!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 04/03/2019 21:45

Sominex were a great help for me when I couldn't sleep.

greenelephantscarf · 04/03/2019 21:48

night nurse.
but be mindfull of the paracetamol in it.
the herbal remedies don't do anything for me, but might be worth a try for you,

Megg1007 · 04/03/2019 21:56

I suffer from anxiety and used to use Kalms on a regular basis and they worked amazingly for me. Even now on terrible days I use them and they work!

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 04/03/2019 22:02

I use Nytol to sleep when insomnia gets bad. Might be worth a go. And bedtime tea like chamomile or a sleep easy one

TellySavalashairbrush · 04/03/2019 22:22

Phernegan - usual sold for travel sickness or antihistamine use. Knocks me out like a light.

CarpeVitam · 04/03/2019 23:06

Phenergan, brilliant stuff! Grin
