Is Mary Poppins okay for world book day?

I'd have liked to have sent DD (age 5) as a book character rather than a movie character but she desperately wants to go as mary poppins.

Do you think it's okay to let her go as mary poppins or do I need to persuade her to go as something else? Thanks.

It was a book before it was a film wasn't it?

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/03/2019 19:51

It was a book first so fine.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 04/03/2019 19:52

Yes of course, she was a book character way before a movie character. Books are by PL travers, I'd recommend them, much better than the film!

LittleBearPad · 04/03/2019 19:52

Mary Poppins is a book, several in fact.

PickledLimes · 04/03/2019 19:53

Mary Poppins was a book character first so that's not an issue.

Hollowvictory · 04/03/2019 19:53

It's a book!

BlueMerchant · 04/03/2019 19:53

It's a great classic. Fab book.

Mary Poppins by PL Travers. There's even a film about the author writing the story!

ISaySteadyOn · 04/03/2019 19:54

It was a book series before it was ever a film so yes. And Petulia is right, they are better than the film.

binkyblinky · 04/03/2019 19:56

Yes, it was originally a set of books by PL Travers. The film was loosely based on her books, and she hated it. The books are much darker!

I've just ordered the book from Amazon. A lovely illustrated hardback. I hadn't realised. DD will love it. Thanks all.
