We are thinking of getting ducks ... my friend said she had ducks and walked them on leads !
My husband says " no way we are not walking ducks "
Do they need walking ?
What would you think if you saw someone walking a duck on a lead ?
Would you walk a duck if you had one ?
I'd walk a duck

Each to its own. Im not sure they need it. I saw a couple walking a goat once.

JasonGideon · 04/03/2019 19:23

I’d probably say they were quackers!
I’ll see myself out.

Bigdreams · 04/03/2019 19:25

A man I used to live near walked his cat regularly on a lead!

ChandelierSail · 04/03/2019 19:26

I think they'd prefer a big pond to swim on than be walked. Are ducks up for walking? They don't strike me as an animal that would enjoy walking / waddling.

Bigonesmallone3 · 04/03/2019 19:26

They've ducking lost it..

Whitelisbon · 04/03/2019 19:27

My eldest 2 dc still talk fondly about the day we met 3 pet ducks on leads in pets at home, and they were allowed to stroke them. It was at least 7-8 years ago, the dc were about 8 and 4.
So, I'd think, awesome, can the kids say hi?

PinkHeart5914 · 04/03/2019 19:28

I’d think it’s cruel, ducks are not meant to be walked on a lead fgs. I feel sorry for the ducks..

Elliemayclampett · 04/03/2019 19:28

I saw someone walking a pig once.

anniehm · 04/03/2019 19:29

I would be very concerned about the local dog population if you walked a duck in the park - mine wouldn't care less, he is only interested in his ball, but many breeds have a kill instinct. There was a lady who walked a giant rabbit in the park and she had a couple of near misses so sticks to streets now.

TropicPlunder · 04/03/2019 19:29

I'd always be happy to meet a duck. The duck may draw the attention of dogs though! Might have to be careful if walking where dogs are loose, as ducky wouldn't be able to fly off, and dog owners wouldn't be duck-ready.... suppose you could be poised to pick duck up. I've seen people bring ferrets and pythons to local parks, so a duck doesn't seem unreasonable

CMOTDibbler · 04/03/2019 19:29

As a child, I took my duck for a walk. And my cockerel (he generally rode on my handlebars). And as a family we took the goats for a walk too.

The duck didn't need walking, but I liked taking him out. The goats enjoyed an evening stroll and a trip to the ice cream van in the summer

ReaganSomerset · 04/03/2019 19:29

@JasonGideon

Ah, you beat me to it. Good one. Grin

Rockbird · 04/03/2019 19:30

Not a lot. But then we have a couple round here who take their tiny adorable pony for a walk to the park. Smile

avocadochocolate · 04/03/2019 19:32

My DD wants leads for our chickens although she did reluctantly agree that they would get scared by the local dogs.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/03/2019 19:41

I'd think "They're taking a duck for a walk, how cute!"
Then I'd tell my children I saw someone walking a duck.

FiveLittlePigs · 04/03/2019 19:45

Didn't you post this last week or thereabouts? Definitely was a thread about putting a duck on a lead. Hmm

twattymctwatterson · 04/03/2019 19:50

Have you not already started a thread about walking a duck and were told it's a no no? If you're the same person, you had a thread about duck sex too. Is this some weird fetish?

Ftryoh · 04/03/2019 20:11

I have lots of ducks, I wouldn't walk them, I've seen people do it online and I find it strange. Ducks you raise do tend to follow you but to slap a harness on it and take it for a walk, no. It's going to be scared when it comes across dogs or cats on your walk and it's not going to get the same joy out of a walk that a dog would. Give your duck enough room to free-range in your garden, ditch the walking idea it will be much happier.

Villanellesproudmum · 04/03/2019 20:14

If think you were bonkers but would want to be your friend so your duck and my dog could go for a walk Grin

HettieBettie · 04/03/2019 20:16

That I would like to be their friend so on the odd occasion I may be able to walk said duck. 🦆

JaretsGirlfren · 04/03/2019 20:18

I would run away, I’m terrified of ducks Blush

MintyCedric · 04/03/2019 20:21

I'm planning to get leads for my young cats when the spring kicks in properly. They are house cats but part Bengal and one in particular need a a bit more exercise and stimulation.

I'm fully expecting some odd looks but I have a very high 'couldn't give a shit' threshold so it's all good.

If I saw you walking your ducks I'd think good on ya, and probably stop for a chat (unless I had a cat on a lead with me)!

IndieTara · 04/03/2019 20:31

I'd love to see somebody walking a duck!

dawnc27 · 04/03/2019 20:31

i once saw a man walking a staffie dog, not too unusual i hear you say.... except perched on the dog was an african grey parrot!!
both were very well behaved

Whocansay · 04/03/2019 20:31

If you must do this, I would urge you to be cautious where you walk it. I have known lots of dogs that are fond of chasing and shaking ducks if they get the opportunity.

I'd think you were quite cruel, to be honest. Ducks aren't meant to be 'walked'. They only waddle relatively short distances. They swim or fly when they want to move. I can't imagine a harness would be very comfortable for a creature with wings either.

You do realise they are actually animals and not props for your lifestyle?
