Is there anything that either predisposes or protects against alcoholism?

We have quite a few alcoholics in the family.

Admittedly all have had heavy drinking parents, and at least one emotionally abusive parent.
I'm wondering what I can do to protect my children from "inheriting" mental health issues and also alcoholism. Obviously I can make sure myself and my husband are not heavy drinkers (we are infrequent light drinkers) and do our best in parenting (work in progress....) But is there anything else?
I'm wondering if there's a genetics element, or merely having a lot of alcohol around bin childhood , or am I just reaching to control something that can't be construed?

Does anyone have any insights on this?

the Jason Vale book is great.... if i understand him correctly, his take is that it's learned behaviour from our environment and the governments normalisation of the drug that is alcohol which basically has the same effect as heroin.... interesting

There is a genetic component to alcoholism. I am very open with my kids that there is rampant alcoholism in our family and that’s why I don’t drink.

Genetic component plus learned behaviour makes sense. Add in poor stress reactions due to emotionally abusive parenting and the socially acceptable face of alcohol - well some people don't really stand a chance I suppose?
So all I can do is model low/no drinking. Educate my kids on the dangers with emphasis on family history? Is there anything else?

I might be way off but I think there’s a genetic disposition to addiction
Eg in my ex’s family there were several addicts with different addictions
A gambler. A drug user and an alcoholic
