Best vacuum for back?

If you have a bad back, what type of vacuum cleaner works better for you?

I just got rid of my pull along hoover and changed to an upright. After one go, I feel like it's affecting my back - even though I thought uprights were meant to be better for backs?

It's a VAX and quite heavy - so maybe this is the issue. Are some uprights quite light? Do I just need time to adjust? Or do I now need to buy another pull along barrel vacuum cleaner?

I don't have a bad back but I'm happy with the convenience that comes with robot vacuums. I love how they're just one phone tap away and recharges itself when it's about to get a dead battery already. When it's fully charged, it would go back to where it left off. This might help with your bad back but it might give you the "bad ears". lol! coz they're really noisy. I cannot last 5minutes close to it with it running around. I have to schedule its cleaning while we're away.

I don't have a stairs, just a small flat, which means a lot of manoeuvring. And then I need to hoover the sofas, chairs, skirting boards and cat tree due to cat hairs.

LokisLover yes I try to be mindful of how I hoover, I practice pilates for my back so quite mindful of using my core etc.

MommOfTwo oh no, are the robot vacuums very noisy? That might rule it out for me then as I live in a flat and don't want to annoy my neighbours below me, especially as I need to hoover every day.

Thanks for your recommendations everyone, very useful.

I have a v bad back, several injuries etc. The Dyson V10 has literally life changing. So many attachments for dusting, doing couches etc. A head for hard floors and another for carpets. It's just amazing.

I have a bad back and say 100% Dyson V10. Game changer. Unless you have bad arms/wrists in which case a stick might not be the best choice

I’m following with interest, I have a Henry and it’s dreadful for my bad back. It’s the lifting and the manoeuvring of it that hurts, then it gets stuck at the slightest opportunity.

Personally, I do not think any hoover will make much difference to your back. I would just go for a massage and a hot bath.

Ooh the Dyson V10 has amazing reviews AND there's a pet version.

Al2O3 Grin some things really do make a difference to my back. Another example, at work I have to sit in a particular chair which doesn't look all that much different to the other chairs, but makes the world of difference.
