Family Cars Medium Sized

I need to replace my ancient Vauxhall Corsa which is no longer repair worthy. DH's car is unlikely to last more than another couple of years so we are wondering if we can go down to one car. I like small cars, he likes larger (currently running an executive/saloon style car). We're going to compromise with something medium sized. But what?

I'm clueless what to go for, what have you got and would you recommend it?

Ideally I would like something:
Suitable for a family of 4 (2 tweens)
have a reasonable boot space
easy to manoeuvre (lots of one way narrow streets with speed bumps and gates)
easy to park
able to cope with rural roads (so nothing with a really low front)
feel safe particularly on motorways

Any ideas?

We’ve just gone from a Cross to a Qasqai. I love it! So much space for all of us. We are a ‘blended family’ (cringe) But when it’s all of us it’s us in the front and 2 x teens and 1 x Primary School age in the back.

Skoda Karoq. High driving position, good sized boot ( rear seats can be removed entirely if you want), good visibility, cameras, good lumbar support in the seats,. Little touches, like iPad rests on the back of the seats, clip for parking ticket, torch in the boot, umbrella and windscreen scraper. It’s very comfortable too, better than the Qashqai I had before.

Most of the platform is based on VW, but it’s better value.

Mini clubman or countryman. Decent boot space, good back seat space for growing children, 5 doors.

Love ours. We downsized from a ford galaxy, no regrets. I must admit, I prefer the lower driving position, don't miss being up high at all.

We have a Skoda Yeti, which I think I has been replaced by Skoda by the Karoq. Before that we had the Skoda Roomster (which unfortunately they don't make anymore either). That was my favourite car, small but so roomy, definitely lived up to its name
