DS wants to be the yellow crayon from The Day The Crayons Quit so started this.

Still need to make his crayon nib hat.

DD wants to be Hermoine so pretty straight forward.

Dd is a giant so xs adult genie from Aladdin onsie bought in the sale in Primark for £7, happy days.

I've always been that mum making stuff from scratch even down to doing a full Wizard of Oz flying monkey costume with tail, wings and true to the film hat and waist coat - the other flying monkeys were in all brown with wings made of card on their arms - swore from then on I'd stop being so extra even though I loved making them over the years.

Wendywoo1000 · 03/03/2019 19:21

My DS will go as a footballer. Like he always does on book day. No effort involved

Its a load of shite. People fretting about it. Why bother.

Mummyilovejokes1 · 03/03/2019 19:41

Existing costume here (x mas pressie) but had to pay £3 for the book to take in to talk about his character...captain america

Justonemorepancake · 03/03/2019 19:50

@ItsAllBollocksAgain I am already cringing with embarrassment about how extra I've been. I just couldn't help myself. It was so fun. I'm going to be scarlet on thursday and muttering apologies at the floor. Actually might make DH do the run.

Vinorosso74 · 03/03/2019 19:55

I hate fancy dress stuff. The same kids with creative parents will win best outfits. DD is going as Ellie from David Baddiel's "The Person Controller". Even she wasn't bothered but then her friends were talking about it last week so we cobbled some stuff together today.

FoofFighter · 03/03/2019 19:58

@Justonemorepancake I couldn't find it again :(

kingfisherblue33 · 03/03/2019 20:02

Nothing yet! Looking for inspiration. What can my 11yo ds wear?!

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 03/03/2019 20:04

DS school aren't doing dressing up. We have to fill a jam jar to represent a book. No bloody idea what we are going to do. Tempted to just take a jar of marmalade and say it is Paddington!

Thefirstjedi · 03/03/2019 20:12

Ds3 is going as Poseidon from the Percy Jackson books - DH has made him a trident and otherwise its Bermuda shorts, Haiwaiian shirt and sandals. Hope the weather isn’t too bad on Thursday...

PepsiLola · 03/03/2019 20:13

I went to my local barnardos charity shop that had a rail of fancy dress for world book day.

My DS choose a dinosaur costume, and we have plenty of dinosaur books! So he's going to take in Gigantisaurus.

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 03/03/2019 20:15

One child borrowed a penguin hat and will wear their pe kit as it's black & white.

The other child is wearing brown trousers (if they have some, black if not) and a brown or yellow T-shirt and a lion mask o printed the other day.

I refuse to buy anything and don't have a creative bone in my body so wouldn't know where to start with making a costume.

WorldBookDays · 03/03/2019 20:16

Just one I love it too. Maybe I'm just a saddo but I enjoy making things

lucysmam · 03/03/2019 20:29

@Vinorosso74 it's never the kids in home made costumes at our school! Always ones from supermarkets/Home Bargains or wherever else. I don't care though, I enjoy making the costumes & dd2 (used to be both girls) has fun wearing them and showing them off :)

Stylinit · 03/03/2019 20:32

Dd is going to be silkie from the faraway tree (fairy costume, blonde wig & she’s making cakes then putting sherbert in them to be pop cakes).

Ds Terry from 13 storey treehouse - that’s a very easy one just a t-shirt & trousers.

I’m also hoping to be a crayon from the day the crayons quit as long as the costume I’ve ordered isn’t truly horrific (it was very cheap!).

Normally I’m all about making stuff / using stuff we have at home (and I’m very strict about it needing to be an actual book character from an actual book they have read) but I just didn’t have the time this year.

Pascha · 03/03/2019 20:39

Ours have to represent journeys or exploration in sync with the national science week theme the following week. They are making a big fortnight of it including a whole school trip.

Ds1 is channelling Steve Backshall going caving by wearing own clothes and adding carabiners, a headtorch, compass and any other explorey shit we can clip on him, plus my old safari hat. He loathes dressing up and this means he can take it all off after morning assembly and forget about it in his bag for the rest of the day.

Ds2 thinks he will be a train driver and we have a hat and waistcoat thing anyway so no problem there.

Fantababy · 03/03/2019 21:07

The couple of shops I tried yesterday had lots of costumes, but nothing from actual books. It's not bloody Disney Princess day. [killjoy]

Am not artistic in the slightest either.

RippleEffects · 03/03/2019 21:18

DD is wearing bunny ears glue gunned onto hairclips (wont tolerate a hairband), a blue cardugan/ jacket and a white pompom glue guned onto a badge to fix it on the back of the cardy as a tail. She's going as Peter Rabbit.

If we make it to the classroom door it'll be a first. 6 years of world book days in, we have made costumes to DD's exacting requirements every year and she's become overwhelmed on the day.

At least this year we can just unbutton the badge tail and remove the two hairclips and she's in familiar clothes.

Paradyning · 03/03/2019 21:30

I hate world fucking book day. I'd rather keep dc off nursery.

Stompythedinosaur · 03/03/2019 21:31

We have made armour out of cardboard and a crown for dd1 to be king arthur.

Dd2 is wearing a dalmation onesie that she already has, with some facepaint.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 03/03/2019 21:34

Making lol. I am definitely not wasting my time making costumes. If they want nice hand made costumes they will have to do it themselves.
