Phone 111 or wait and see

Yesterday I started with pain on the gum at the back of my mouth, it has gradually got worse and my cheek is slightly swollen.

I feel ill but not too bad.

DH thinks I have an abscess and should ring 111 but I think I should wait to see if it gets better. WWYD?

Does sound like an abscess especially if it's causing a lot of pain but could just as easily be an impacted wisdom tooth?
I've had a few gum abscesses previously and I've just dosed up on pain killers and rinsed with salt water until I could get into the dentist. If you're able to survive the weekend on pain killers try and get an appointment next week and if it is infected get antibiotics. If you can't 111 will tell you about out of hours dentists you can see.
It will be painful I felt like ripping my teeth out with mine but I made sure to be dosed up and doing things to take my mind off it.
Alternatively you could try releasing pressure by pressing it trying to release some fluid although this could then lead to infection so up to you on that one. Feel better!

Thank you, I did actually wonder if it was a tooth but I'm in my late 30s so not sure.

I'm going to dose up on paracetamol and just manage today. I'd rather see my dentist tomorrow if I can.
