Hello All! Yesterday our son got allocated FHB as his secondary school. This school wasn't on our list of 6 schools. I don't know anyone who goes/went there. I've seen few chats from previous years (2016/2017) but would be grateful if someone could post their experience/opinion about the school. We will be visiting the school next week as well. We obviously heard about the school's financial problems. Thank you in advance for your help.

I didn't know they had financial problems! That's a shame. School has a very good reputation around here

I’d imagine most secondary schools have financial issues with reduced budgets etc.

Hi Joker. My son is in Y9 at FHS and we're genuinely very happy with how he is doing. The last term of his Y7 year was a bit of a write-off because of the financial issues, redundancies, strikes etc, but as others have said ALL state schools pretty much are now finding themselves having to make huge savings -FHS was ahead of the game in a way. The head made some big and difficult decisions, rejigged the structure of the school day and has taken on board advice and opinions of parents among other bodies and it's starting to pay off. He's very honest and open - what you see is what you get. I like him. Please feel free to message me if you want any more info Smile

Thank you @Sleepthief . I definitely have more questions about the school.
How do they deal with bullying and the overall discipline?

They've had a complete overhaul of their behaviour policy in the last year, so it's much more consistent across the school and all staff and students are clear on how it works. Re bullying, i haven't had any direct experience (so far, luckily), but when there was an issue in Y7 with older boys picking on the y7s we wrote to the head and they immediately implemented a cashless payment system and designated a separate area of the playground for the younger boys. So, while I can't comment personally on bullying I can tell you that they are very responsive when issues are raised to them.

My Dsis DS is going here in Y7 and he's lovely. From what I hear lots of boys from his school are going there too and it's a lovely school. I think Kingsdale was their first choice but they're really happy with getting FHB. DN is quite a sensitive boy and apparently he's really happy to be going there too.
