Not a posh dinner party just a couple of friends over but I want to cook something a bit “special”
Probably will be something using chicken for the main
And no mushrooms.
Main and pudding inspiration would be great Grin

This is lovely, we normally use chicken thighs on the bone and then roast the chicken on its own for about 45m before putting it on the rice (have had issues in the past when the chicken just wouldn't cook through). I'll think of a nice pudding shortly.

For pudding I would do sticky toffee pudding or buy a nice cake.
If you are cooking chicken then maybe do it as a tray bake with potatoes and veg. Asparagus, Charlotte potatoes, cherry tomatoes and then some creamed spinach to rest it all on.

Was also going to recommend Delia’s chicken basque. I follow the recipe to the letter with success - the oven, not hob option. Nigella’s chicken with peas and leeks is nice too.

A (no pastry) chocolate tart for dessert? fully made in advance, just serve with cream and berries. This is the recipe I use.

Chicken in creamy tarragon sauce, you could serve it with plain rice or new potatoes and green beans.
Rhubarb is in season now, so I’d make a rhubarb and orange compote maybe serve with Greek yoghurt and little almond biscuits (buy the biscuits).
