Frustrating marketing mistake!

DS is left handed. I got him a left-handed pen and he was thrilled. At school they apparently use pencils. I looked into it and the same complany I got the pen from, also do pencils. But in the pictures, the kids (two different kids) are both right-handed!
So now I am not buying the pencils as I am a bit baffled by it!
Is it even a left-handed pencil??

Anyone else seen mistakes similar? Spelling mistakes in company marketing drives me insane!

My dd is left handed and never had left handed pencils and pens. Surely they ate 5ge same as right handed pencil and pens, is it a joke?

MeInGeneva · 02/03/2019 07:57

I'm left handed. I haven't ever been aware of being digitally disadvantaged by standard writing materials.

I call bullshit. Just buy him a normal pencil and teach him to tilt the page at an angle to the right which will help improve his handwriting.

hidinginthenightgarden · 02/03/2019 07:57

No they have grips in different places.
His handwriting isn't great and he hates writing so I thought I would see if this helps. He has been writing since he got up this morning, completely of his own accord so it is working in that it has encouraged him to write.

Tried that Geneva. He says there isn't enough room on the table at school!

My son has the left handed pen and pencil(my other son had the right handed one). They have helped my lefty with his grip, I’m not sure if it’s because they are left hand specific but he does like using them.

MeInGeneva · 02/03/2019 07:59

I've seen them and tried them and they make absolutely no difference. Right handed people don't need special grips at an angle for right handed people.

Tell him it's a special left handed pencil if it encourages him but buy an ordinary one!

DelurkingAJ · 02/03/2019 08:03

It’s just a built in grip. I had a slide on one in the 1980s to get my grip right and DS1 (6) had one from school. It’s given him the finger muscle memory so he now grips the pencil correctly without one. So it’s just a tool...bravo if you never needed one but it’s a great idea if a child is struggling.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/03/2019 08:05

Maybe the grip just helps all kids?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 02/03/2019 08:09

But in the pictures, the kids (two different kids) are both right-handed!

Is it advertised specifically as a left handed pencil? If yes, then yeah it's a marketing fail if the only pictures of it being used is of right handed kids.

yorkshirepud44 · 02/03/2019 08:13

I've managed over 40 years without a special pencil. Don't worry. My pencil handwriting is somehow nearer than anything I can manage with a pen. Hmm

yorkshirepud44 · 02/03/2019 08:16

Neater even!

hidinginthenightgarden · 02/03/2019 08:19

Yes Sarcasm it is marketed as a left handed pencil!

PenguinPHD - the grip may be helpful for all kids but if so, why are they referring to it as a "left-handed" pencil?

Then yeah it's a marketing mistake. However, it doesn't mean the pencil won't be right for him, just that someone in an office either cut corners and used a stock photo without checking or didn't realise. You could email them to confirm the suitability of the pencil if you'd like and also point out that the picture doesn't match the item they're selling/promoting.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/03/2019 08:37

As I said above they do left and right handed ones. The exact same pen or pencil with the grips on opposite sides.

Frustrating marketing mistake!
TheNemesisOfLame · 02/03/2019 08:39

Maybe the writing on the side of the pencil goes the correct way instead of being upside down?
It used to annoy me and leftie DS...
