It's 5.45 am and I'm sitting in the waiting room of my closest train station here in the NW, heading towards an event in the surroundings of London.

It's something I have taken part to over the last 3-4 years and enjoyed, but always been there driving and with DH. Last year we had the addition of my DS too, and it was a complete disaster - the house got flooded in our absence due to a leak, DS got bronchiolitis due to the freezing cold and snow that plagued London, and DH fell ill and was transported to the local hospital with the ambulance.

This year they have encouraged me to go alone and I left them safe and sound asleep at home, but I am shaking - terrified that something might happen in my absence, to get lost, to miss connections (I have 7 minutes to change train in a station I have never seen ). I can't help thinking I've been selfish and crazy to decide to go on my own. I'm playing with my car keys thinking about coming back home! Please tell me something Confused

Woo hoo! You might well be ok doing the reverse journey via East Croydon then Watford Junction. Watford really isn’t too big a station (10 platforms I think, and fewer concourses of course) and pretty well signed, so you should be able to do the change fine.

Loved reading this thread and the journey !
I hope you have a lovely time Flowers

Back to East Croydon now. The planned route has a reservation from Euston so this time my ticket should be valid for the tube.

Everything fine so far, although DH is guilt tripping me as he doesn't drive so they couldn't go anywhere with little DS and the bad weather and says he has been stroppy and hard to entertain at home. Confused

I'm on a train to Victoria, trying to do the reverse journey. Once I'm in Euston I should be fine ...

At home now, DS is asleep and I'm eating dinner prepared by DH! I'm glad I did it, I had fun. And no disasters.

Thanks to all MNers who helped me today!Smile

Thanks for the update - I was thinking of you earlier and hoping your journey home was going ok! Well done for doing it and hopefully you have renewed confidence you can do a similar journey in future. And if you have a wobble, there’s always someone in here who will help, whatever the journey!
