Just that really. Trying to line up with a parking bay and just took my eye off the ball
Went too far back on a not very wide road and heard the sickening crunch.

Gutted.

On one of my first driving lessons I took my instructors wing mirror off by hitting it on a wheelie bin. I cried.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 02/03/2019 02:19

@WarpedGalaxy and in all the years since I’ve never had an accident 😝

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 02/03/2019 02:30

&WarpedGalaxy you are so perfect, I love you 💕

WarpedGalaxy · 02/03/2019 02:39

Grin Love you right back justagirlwholovesaboy seems like my heavy handed joke missed it’s mark. I was laughing with you not at you!
And yes, the tailgate destroyer was me, not perfect, the only reason the one tree on the verge in the college parking lot I practiced parking in is still standing after I hit the gas not the brake one time is more by luck than judgement!

My dad was always telling me off for not leaving the car in gear when I parked as we lived in a very hilly town. One day he was fixing something under my bonnet and told me to turn the car on.. So I did and forgot about leaving the car in gear. The car jumped forward and hit him Blush.

I've reversed into a wall recently. Dh was not happy about the damage at all.

Also when Ds was a few weeks old, dh took us out for food (to cheer us both up as ds was a non sleeper) we came out and the car was across 4 spaces at an angle, we both stood there for 5 mins looking at what I was teasing dh about his 'perfect parking'. Didn't click to either if us that someone had hit it until they kindly came out and said.

Thank you all for your stories.
In fact the young girl whose car I hit was lovely about it.
She’s going to take it to a garage , the same one she’d just got her car back from two weeks ago for same thing and see what it will cost.

This isn’t the first time I’ve reversed into something either but it’s a long time since I last did .

As I’m the only driver since husbands stroke it means no matter how I feel if we are away somewhere I have to drive.

Just after his stroke I was driving his car into my daughter’s narrower than I would like driveway. I was struggling a bit and he said look it doesn’t matter if you hit it. What a keeper he is.
Anyway I didn’t..so I’m a rather gutted that three years on I’ve grazed it a bit.

It’s life isn’t it? No one died ☹️

I reversed into a mum on the school run Blush
Luckily I was the only one who had damage and duct tape can work wonders on my old banger. It happens op.

Mmmhmmokdear · 02/03/2019 11:39

I keep reversing into bollards in the asda car park. You think I'd have learnt by now. My spatial awareness is Not Good!!

I also hit a car on my 30th birthday, trying to park next to it and misjudged the space.

emwithme · 02/03/2019 11:51

I drove into a sofa. (It was in the garage awaiting a trip to the tip). Had owned the car three weeks; the dented wing remained until the car was scrapped 9 years later.

My FIL wrote off his MG in a similar way in the 70s - he drove into his garage and stopped at his usual point. Unfortunately his previous car was a mini.

longearedbat · 02/03/2019 12:37

I reversed into a gate. At the end of the driveway, I had opened both gates, but didn't see that one had swung back to 45 degrees. It was the crunch that was so horrible, and I couldn't work out what I had hit for a moment. Smashed a whole light cluster. Idiot. I was always careful to make sure I pinned the gates after that.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 02/03/2019 12:44

Few months ago I pulled out of a parking space, straight forwards a bit then turning left and "crunch". It was next to a trolley bay that had a metal barrier the full length of it but just below the window level so it was unseen. Back door of the car was dented by the front of the barrier. Annoying. The only way I could have got out of the space would have been pulling straight forwards so far I would have had to then reverse full lock and then full lock forwards to get out, as the facing bay of parked cars was too close.
Anyway. I just did the exact same thing today in the same spot on the car. I had looked and seen a barrier but thought I had a car space between me and it. Turns out it was just the far side of the trolley bay barrier, with the near side one invisible below my window. (Also unseen in mirror) I'm hoping to get away without fessing up as the damage looks the same as before, just pushed in another cm!

I just don’t think there’s the visibility in these modern cars.

I came out of work one evening and drove forward out of the space and turned too soon straight onto a concrete bollard. It is right in the corner of the space and too low to be seen from the car. Hundreds of staff have hit it- in fact it’s almost down now bloody thing. I caused hundreds if not thousands of £££s worth of damage to my car and needed a new door. Had only had the car a few months.
I am usually a very good driver and always reverse into spaces and have no issues getting into tight spaces in big cars. I was so upset.

MrsBartlettforthewin · 02/03/2019 13:11

At at 18 I revised off my parents drive a little bit quickly one night having thought I'd check behind me to find my self driving into the neighbours car who'd parked where we'd always revise out to. Massive bang, only a few scratches but felt a total tit.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 02/03/2019 13:17

I reversed into our porch, seconds after I'd thought to myself "I haven't reversed into the porch in years"

A friend reversed off her drive into her neighbour's car, which was unusually parked on the road. Neighbour didn't park on the road again, for months. The very next time neighbour parked on the road, friend reversed into their car again.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 02/03/2019 13:17

@Gibble1 so pretty much the same as I have done twice. I'm so annoyed! I am also an excellent parker - our city has very narrow streets, parking down both sides and small spaces so I have to reverse park with zero margin for error. Never have had a problem doing that! But this fucking car park...

ItmustbeGlove · 02/03/2019 14:11

A friend of mine got her Discovery stuck going down a ramp into a car park. She was properly stuck, involving the RAC and a lot of Shouty people.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 02/03/2019 14:21

Oh yes I got stuck going into a car park too when I forgot I had just put a roof box on. Just had to scrape my way on through, wincing and weeping slightly and go out. I had a big queue of people behind me and single lane. Bloody awful.

Ronsters · 02/03/2019 15:31

I miscalculated reversing out of my drive, hit a low wall (mine), and knocked it down.

Tootyfilou · 02/03/2019 15:34

I reversed into a bollard when driving away from the Car vallet🙄 I tried to style it out and didn’t get out of the car to look until I was around the corner !

Coronapop · 02/03/2019 16:27

Reversed over my briefcase containing laptop during morning rush to get small DCs organised etc.........

sar302 · 02/03/2019 19:15

When I first passed my test, I went round a mini roundabout in the middle of nowhere, in the dark, no one else for miles. I missed my turning. Instead of going round the roundabout again, I panicked and tried to reverse back on myself, mounted the roundabout, and hit one of those fluorescent cones.

FrancesFryer · 02/03/2019 19:29

My friend reversed into his neighbours car once. He spent the next 20 minutes on the phone to direct line trying to pursuade them they were his insurers when he remembered he'd changed to Churchill at his last renewal

HiGunny · 02/03/2019 19:36

I used to do a bootcamp class and one evening i reversed into a classmates car. There was a bit of damage to her bumper so I had to pay for that but then I just felt so awkward and embarrassed for the rest of the term. Didn't go back the next term!

I also scratched the side of my car on a pillar parking at work. And another time I scratched it off a wall when parking at the train station. I now have parking sensors AND a rear camera Grin

PencereTencere · 02/03/2019 19:43

The other week whilst exiting a car park, I caught the underside of my 4 month old car on a raised kerb and FUCK the noise it made was sickening. The car is 4 months old - the only new car I've ever had, because it was a replacement for my very old one that was written off through no fault of my own. It's left a dent and a white scratch right down low underneath one of the doors. I've done all of the swears and had a wee sob about it.

I'm a numpty. 🤦‍♀️
