Just that really. Trying to line up with a parking bay and just took my eye off the ball
Went too far back on a not very wide road and heard the sickening crunch.

Gutted.

I didn’t take out the alloy insurance when I got my new car recently as I’ve never scraped any wheel before in 20+ years of driving but I should have as I’ve scraped 3 really badly in the 6 months I’ve had the car.

Still it’s not as bad as the time I literally reversed into my neighbours car in the street having just commented out loud wondering why she’d parked it there.

Or the time my ex had used my car and must have left the steering wheel at an angle and as I attempted to reverse off the driveway I scraped my wing mirror along the whole house and it fell off at the end.

I hired a van. Returned it to the hire place the following day and was in a bit of a rush. Swung into the car park and reversed it into my own car.

Ilikeanimalsmorethanpeople · 01/03/2019 23:35

I reversed into a garage Blush smashed the back of the car and the reverse light ended up underneath it. Told my husband the garage went into me.

Also went through a car wash with my window open. Wouldn't recommend it although the inside was spotless afree.

When I was earth shatteringly exhausted from broken sleep when DD was small, I'd gone to the nursery one day to collect her. The nursery was in an extraordinarily expensive neighbourhood (I was a student and fees were paid by local authority) and one of her little class-mates lived in a four storey mansion opposite the nursery (the house had its own lift!)

I can't recall the details but I reversed back from the nursery drive and straight into a top of the range BMW parked on the road opposite. Which happened to be owned by a friend of the nursery class-mate's mother. To this day I don't know how I failed to see it. Entire side of the other car was dented; mine was fine. I had to go and ring the mansion doorbell and ask if the car owner was there. Thankfully the man who owned the car was remarkably calm and matter of fact and the insurance company sorted it all out.

I reversed into a parked car... backing out the drive and ended up across the road. I had just passed my test. We now have a car with sensors. I love them!

I parked in a parking spot Id never used befoe because its at a ridiculous angle . Just decided to do it on a whim one day. Angled spaces with the only exit behind but with a railing dividing car park from the road alongside the exit.
Reversed slowly out of the spot -could see the exit clear and could see the railing on the other side - pity the blindspot hid the black car completely in the middle of the 2. Got out and examined the other car. Mine undamaged but his had a dented bumper.
Could have been worse if id been going faster and also if he'd more of an arse. He wasnt exactly over the moon but it was okay in the end. Just my pride in clean driving record damaged .

When my Dad died I got his Mazda 6 TS2 estate car, his pride and joy. It was kept immaculate for the time he had it. Washed and polished regularly. I come along get my hands on it and a few weeks later reverse straight into wall. Straight into the corner part of the brick work. If I hadn't of over steered I would've caught the tow bar and saved the arse end of my car but oh no I had to smash it straight on the left hand side of the rear bumper. Huge dent near the light, pushed all the body work up near the boot. I was gutted. Couldn't afford to have it fixed so I had to leave it, skip forward a few years and I get a knock at the door. One of the old neighbours had skidded on some ice and smashed into the right hand side of my car. Thankfully it was just badly scratched. I had to scrap that car after my stbxh decided to run it about with no oil inside it, even though the garage told him it could do with filling up. Engine blew up on a busy road when I was on my way home from somewhere. The car I have now literally had it 2-3 days. Car in front of the car in front brakes harshly. I hit my brakes and aqua planed straight into the back of the car in front of me. I was mortified, stood at side of road shaking and crying. Thankfully neither car had any damage, I just had a bit of paint work taken off mine, but the car I hit was fine, the guy said to me as long as you're ok I'm not bothered about exchanging insurance details or anything. I am actually a very good driver normally!!

When I was learning to drive DH took me for a practice in the family car which was parked on the street outside our house. I checked my mirrors and pulled out and went straight into the side of our opposite neighbour's car parked over the road. I hadn't quite got the hang of the steering thing.

MrsPinkCock · 02/03/2019 00:01

I reversed into DHs car. On our drive Blush

DH reversed into a post. Whilst I was screaming POST! STOP STOP! At him Grin

I also once backed into a big metal fence at a cricket ground. Didn’t just knock down the fence panel onto my car, nope! The whole fence side fell down.

It happens. I’m safer driving than reversing though!

Myshinynewname · 02/03/2019 00:02

I reversed into my dad who was watching me back out of his drive Blush I am still living it down 15 years later.

KTyoupigeon · 02/03/2019 00:05

On the garage forecourt they have large metal upside down U’s to protect the pumps -
Often they gave Perspex advertising sleeves over the top! I know they are there and I know they cover them with the advertising!

One day swung my car round to get as close as possible to pump (petrol cap on other side) and hit the advertisement -
My brain didn’t kick in and remember there were metal bars inside so I carried on and basically crumpled my front wing - smashed my headlight (the whole unit) and pushed the wing into the passenger door and cracked the bumper - all at less than 3 mph!! DOH!!!!

StillMedusa · 02/03/2019 00:06

Picked up my dream car.. a Mazda MX5 and went to pick up DS2 from swimming.
Promptly reversed it into a concrete bollard!!!! A little part of me died at that moment....

I was reversing a car and trailer out of a tight chicane, and all was going well despite the fact I had barely 2cm each side, and couldn't see the object I had to avoid on my far left as I reversed around the 2nd bend. What I failed to notice was the pole I was reversing the trailer around on the drivers side had a catch for the electric fence to hook onto, and I was in a different car to usual. The mirror on the other car was above the height of the catch, but of course the mirror of the car I was reversing was exactly the height of the catch, and took a chunk out of the mirror surround, SO annoying.

theoldtrout01876 · 02/03/2019 01:35

I backed into a telegraph pole in my brand new car. I have a back up camera and still managed to hit a telegraph pole.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 02/03/2019 01:41

Ok to make you all feel better this is my story, I once reversed into a lamppost three times... so I moved house, a green out the front so moving in meant for furniture driving over it. So I reversed once and though the curb stopped me, tried harder, higher acceleration bang, again assumed curb. Couldn’t see put of front mirror due to boxes, wing mirrors all clear, no hazards. Tried one last time, as you can guess not a good outcome 😫

WarpedGalaxy · 02/03/2019 01:50

Well, um, a friend of mine reversed out of their garage with the tailgate of her suv up - DH still isn’t over that. Um, I mean her DH obvs, I did mention it happened to a friend? Not me. I wouldn’t do anything as stupid as that.

WarpedGalaxy · 02/03/2019 01:53

Yeah and the problem was that the tailgate being up meant it was too high to get under the garage door lifting mechanism. Was a terrible crunchy mess with much damage to both tailgate and garage door mech, apparently, at least that’s what I heard.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 02/03/2019 01:55

@WarpedGalaxy your friend gave you a lot of details, clearly wasn’t you though who did this😝

FrostedSnowdrops · 02/03/2019 02:00

This wasn't even going backwards, but I scraped my car against the gatepost on my own driveway two weeks before we moved house - I'd lived there nearly two years and never done it before!

YerAWizardHarry · 02/03/2019 02:06

Drove ex DPs brand new car into skip Blush had also taken the wing mirror off it the week before that. I didn't get a birthday present that year.
Actually one of catalysts to us breaking up was his reaction to the accidents. Prick.

WarpedGalaxy · 02/03/2019 02:11

Justagirlwholovesaboy as someone who admits to reversing into the same lamppost 3 times do you really think you should be casting aspersions on other drivers? Just saying. Hmm. Wink

Atleastihavethecat · 02/03/2019 02:12

I reversed into a hedge. A very big hedge. After almost reversing into a wall.

mamakoukla · 02/03/2019 02:12

Ah finally... my people! My only accidents are with stationary objects.

slipperywhensparticus · 02/03/2019 02:13

Got blocked in had to wiggle my way out took out a buhddlia and a ton of grass the guy helping me pulled the plants from under my car and clipped it back together

was reversing in a car park (very dark) heard a clunky pulled forward no damage anywhere just a huge pothole so I assumed I crunched down in that woke up the next day and found scuff marks on my bumper

pulled into a parking spot in a very busy car park which had a huge puddle in it promptly did a vicar of dibley and fell down a hole up to the middle of my number plate I reversed out saying let's find somewhere else to park kids! (First trip driving alone with the kids)

My mom reversed around a bollard leaving a nice bollard shape in her door

Knew a bloke who got into a "road rage incident" he ended up blocked in down a one way street logically he should have called the police he didn't instead he decided to drive his classic vdub beetle immaculately restored car through a lamppost tearing off the side of his car and wreaking the lamppost he then had the cheek to a,expect his brother to fix his car b, moan his parents made him pay for the lamppost

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 02/03/2019 02:17

@WarpedGalaxy this was 15 years ago, I never used it as an attack. I was proving stupid people like me exist. I’m not defending my actions, the lamp post was bent and I paid for the repair, I was stupid!! I admit it!
