So confused with Facebook messenger and it’s green dots

Can someone advise me on how Facebook messenger works please? I recently was added by my fwb to his Facebook. Sometimes his Facebook has a green dot next to the message circle on his profile page, yet if I go into messenger from Facebook he isn’t showing as online? Likewise his last seen is sometimes there (usually minutes or an hour ago) then an hour later it doesn’t say a last seen anymore.

Does this mean he is randomly changing his settings to appear offline or am I getting totally muddled?

I think you need to calm down with the stalking behaviour...... this is the problem with social media!

Having Facebook open eg on the phone app can I think show you as online but you log separately onto FB messenger as it’s a different app (it is for me anyway).

I’m just trying to work out how it all works. I’m seriously thinking of ending the fwb and I want to be sure of my facts first
