Best shampoo for REALLY greasy hair

My poor 15 year old dd has very very greasy hair.

Off out to the supermarket soon - what’s the best, readily available, shampoo that I can get her.

Alberto balsam tea tree tingle

You need something without silicone

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/03/2019 17:47

Ginger or Tea Tree from Body Shop. My DD loves them, smell lovely too!

AornisHades · 01/03/2019 17:48

Dd sometimes uses washing up liquid!

Agree with avoiding silicones - they’ll just make the problem worse. I like the tresseme cleansing shampoo. Follow up with a light silicone-free conditioner just on the ends.

Having been there, my advise is anything light. Head and shoulders works a treat for me. Or there are some brands like simple which make a really basic shampoo. Anything that doesn’t weigh down the hair - so generally volume shampoos should help. Plus I’d get her a dry shampoo to try and drag out how long she can wait before washes (it’s definitely true that the more you wash than the more you need to!!). I dry shampoo before bed (rubs in, avoids that powdery look!)

There are also things you can do outside of shampoo.... brushing regularly with a soft bristle hairbrush brings the oils down from the scalp and distributed within the hair.

And obviously make sure her pillow is washed as often as possible. I sleep with a towel a lot of the time.

ADVICE not advise sorry

I used to use herbal essences for greasy hair and it was a god send. my daughter also has greasy hair and I make sure her hair is thoroughly dried with the hair dryer as drip drying or towel drying leaves ensures her hair gets greasy quickly .

Has anybody used L'oreal Elvive Clay Oily Roots Shampoo? It says its silicone free too.

dancemom · 01/03/2019 19:30

Elvive Clay is great

Redken24 · 01/03/2019 19:33

Try boots apple shampoo it's 75p and really good. If she can try and use a fifty pence size blob and wash it twice like this instead of using loads.

Chipsahoy · 01/03/2019 19:33

Elvive clay is the best for greasy hair, really helped mine when I was pregnant and very greasy (glowing for me, means grease apparently).

PeanutButterLips · 01/03/2019 19:36

My hair dresser told me to shampoo twice then condition once.
Don't know about anyone else but this has been a game changer for me.
My hair can go another few days without being washed.

FriendOrFaux · 01/03/2019 19:36

I used to get greasy roots but started using Vosene (the original one) and hair is great now and really shiny.

Digestive28 · 01/03/2019 19:41

I would stop conditioning all together. Less is more I have found, having tried various products I now just have a small amount of whatever shampoo is in offer and that’s it.

drigon · 01/03/2019 21:21

I find Head and Shoulders quite good or the green Elvive anti-dandruff one, though it can make it too dry, weirdly. I spent about £15 on a posh Redken lemon one a while ago and it made no difference.

hugoagogo · 01/03/2019 21:48

Best for teenage greasy hair is the the I love juicy from Lush.
