Help! Does anyone know Cardiff well? Parking / train station question

I need to go to London on Saturday, and the trains are out around Llanelli. I can drive in to Cardiff in a couple of hours, and I don't mind paying for the train station carpark for the 3 days I'm away, but does anyone know if there are likely to be any spaces? Would be arriving Saturday I guess around midday.

I'd drive to Llandaf station and park there. Its free. There will definitely be spaces. Its also 5 minutes off the M4. Just start your ticket from Llandaf.

You could book the local ncp car park - you can do online in advance.

Neath has a good car park, easy to get to. It’s never full. Cardiff car park is always busy.

Joebloggswazere · 01/03/2019 17:38

Cardiff train station is also a pain to get to off the M4.

nikita190 · 01/03/2019 17:39

Cardiff central station will have spaces there's midday if there's no rugby on so check and it's pricy I think £20 off for 24 hours I think but check
I work in town on a sat and there's always spaces all day only if there are no matches on mainly etc

Neath gets caught up in the bus replacement problem - but Llandaf looks like a good option. Thanks!

Is it OK parking overnight in Llandaf?

Just a final bump for any other suggestions, otherwise LLandaf it is, and I"ll assume I'm OK parking there for 3 days.

Have you considered 'park and ride? There are quite a few - I know there's one in Pentwyn and it's about 30mins on the bus. I've used that one, it's great. You drive to the car park (which is out of town) and catch a waiting bus to take you into town.

This is the link for all of the Cardiff ones:
www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/resident/Parking-roads-and-travel/parking/park-and-ride/Pages/default.aspx

Car parking in Cardiff's town is ruinous, as expensive as Heathrow in some spots. Park and ride is very reasonable and not at all stressful.

That's what I'd planned to do originally Witch, but I'm travelling up on Saturday & back Monday, & I don't think overnights are an option at any of them (plus different ones seem to operate weekdays as opposed to weekends Confused )

Is Port Talbot an option? Or is that caught up in the bus replacement too? I used to park there and commute to Cardiff.

Llandaf is 5 minutes from Junction 32. Car Park won’t be full but not sure if it charges. However, you can park for free, no restrictions, in The Parade, which has an entrance into the station.

Thank you so much GandT - that's perfect. Mumsnet is a wonderful thing! I don't mind paying if I have to tbh, it's a one off (going to a funeral) and just want things to be reasonably simple.

Should have checked the trains earlier... I do the west Wales / Cardiff route fairly often, and it's usually so straightforward, but I mostly travel in the week, so hadn't thought about engineering works.

Penarth has lots of street parking near the station.

Msgiggles30 · 01/03/2019 21:58

I live in Whitchurch next to Llandaff it is free in the train station car park However not sure if there is a limit. If so there are loads of side streets. Bishops road is a residential safe street that is just across from the train station with ample on street parking.
