How do you “over” indulge your children?!

I’ve just run a bath for my DS. Perfect temp, dimmed light, lit candle, bath pillow, glass of milk and book on the side.

He’s 8 years old.

He has football on a Friday and comes home exhausted and filthy. Straight in bath and then every Friday, pizza in front of a film, followed by bowl of popcorn for him and his sister whilst I scratch her legs (don’t ask).

What do you do that really is a bit over indulgent?!

Grumpbum123 · 01/03/2019 17:03

Warm their pyjamas in winter on the radiator

Last night i was changing duvets at 10pm, long past bedtime as the one he had on was too hot and he couldn't sleep, the thinner one was too cool, thin duvet plus throw was the winning combination. Not particularly indulgent but I did it all with a smile on my face after a very long and stressful day.

Sizeofalentil · 01/03/2019 17:05

Dh pulls our baby's pram backwards so that the sun won't go in her precious eyes

mamato3lads · 01/03/2019 17:07

Love it OP.
I regularly do little rituals like that for my two youngest DS (7 and 9 years) Pre warm beds. Have tea and cookies ready in their rooms after shower, film all lined up, snuggle blankets at the ready. I love getting them little treats and leaving the package in their room to find after school. Not expensive, just little bits I see when I'm out. I wait to hear the "woah thanks mum!!!" And them thundering down the stairs to show me what i bought them lol. To see their faces light up over a box of lemon sherberts and 99p stickers is priceless. They're young for such a tiny amount of time why not do things like this. Its fun. They love it and I do too. Soon enough they won't even speak to me anymore ( oldest ds 15 years is my case in point)
Confused

Hobbies in this house.
Very expensive, time consuming and dominates family life.

Redcrayons · 01/03/2019 17:09

Warming the uniform on the radiator when it's chilly out. They're both bigger-than-me strapping teens who often walk round the house in boxers and don't feel the cold.

I also thought I would be a no-nonsense eat-what-I-make-or-go-hungry kind of mum. I cant think of the last time we all ate the same meal!
Yes, I indulge my babies children.

FrozenMargarita17 · 01/03/2019 17:25

Awww I can't wait to do this with dd! She's only 19 months so the most indulgent thing is giving her sweeties haha.

Mmmmbrekkie · 01/03/2019 17:32

Love these Smile

Oh lots of stuff tbh, run her bath regularly, warm her towel and pyjamas whilst she is in the bath, clean her room every week, tidy her room if it's untidy, take her breakfast in bed most days, buy her treats just because I want to, bake her favourite stuff when ever she asks, she's sixteen and the youngest (all the others are adults) and is regularly spoilt by all of us.

Idontmeanto · 01/03/2019 17:55

Little treats, (chocolate/bath bomb/candle/nail varnish/cupcake/hot chocolate every week during gcse season.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/03/2019 17:56

Let DS12 spend a Saturday morning dragging me round utterly tedious computer shops looking at apparently desirable Perspex boxes full of fairy lights.

When he’d started getting fussy about dinner I let him choose our meal plan for the week. Fair play he chose two veggie and a fish option and we had clean plates and no moaning all week. It was all pretty fakeaway though.

millythepink · 01/03/2019 18:04

Ours are in their teens but I still love to baby them.

On Valentine's Day I left them a little tin of sweetheart sweets on their bedside tables for when they woke up.

While they're in the shower I sometimes turn down their beds, plump pillows, close their curtains, turn on bedside lamps, spritz their pillows with a lavender mist and lay out clean PJs. If it's cold I'll pop a hotwater bottle in their beds too.

If DD has had a heavy day revising, I will run her a bubble bath, light a scented candle and put her towel and PJs to warm on the radiator. When she's out of the bath I'll gently comb her hair through (it's down to her waist) and give her a shoulder massage.

When I'm shopping I nearly always pick them up a little treat such as a bottle of Lush shower gel or a lip balm.

In the Winter I try to have a mug of tea and hot buttered toast ready for when they walk in from school. In the Summer it's a big glass of iced tea and sliced fruit.

TrainSong · 01/03/2019 18:09

I make their breakfast every single day, getting up at 6.30 to do so, even though they are almost adults and n the point of leaving home. I'll do them a cooked breakfast if they want. At weekends I let them lie in and I get up early to make pancakes or ham and cheese croissants.

dontknowwhattodo80 · 01/03/2019 18:10

I put the heated seat on in the car ready for DS to sit on after rugby Grin. He loves it and is the envy of his team mates Grin

MrsTerryPratcett · 01/03/2019 18:13

I think it comes back to you.

Yesterday I was sick and DD who is 8 made a nest on the sofa with pillows and blankets, got me a drink, dimmed the lights and made sure I had the remote controls. All things I do for her when she's sick. Grin

MyBreadIsEggy · 01/03/2019 18:14

I love these Grin
I can’t really think over anything I’d consider “over indulging” my DCs as they are very little (2 & 3) so I pretty much do everything for them still.
But my own mum did make me breakfast, and bring it to me on a tray every single morning until I was about 15 Blush Not because I asked her to, but because she knew I was a lazy sod who would just scarf down a cereal bar on the way to school rather than a “proper breakfast”. So she’d always make me things like granola and yoghurt, or crumpets Grin

needmorepizzainmydiet · 01/03/2019 18:14

I’m such a bad mum compared to all of you 😂

Tessywoooooo · 01/03/2019 18:24

Yep I dont Think I’ve ever done these things for my 14 yo

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 01/03/2019 18:30

@Mmmmbrekkie aw that sounds lovely. I look forward to over indulging my babies as they grow up...right now it's feeding on demand, 5 bedtime stories or allowing bloody Waffle the wonder dog on CBeebies 😂

InglouriousBasterd · 01/03/2019 18:31

Loads of little things. Favourite meals, charity shop books on her bed, new magazine waiting for her, occasional breakfast in bed.

It’s paid off Grin she often bans me from my room and turns down my bed for me, puts out a book and puts the lamp on and plays sleep sounds on alexa! It’s adorable.

Justgivemesomepeace · 01/03/2019 18:32

Every night on my way up to bed i take dd(16) a drink and toast or crumpet. If its raining after school i have a fire on, warm towel and hot chocolate for her. I buy little treats when im out and about like chocolate or nice toileteries. I rub her stinky feet after netball. 🤢
Ds is 6 and do blooming everything for him Grin
