A big THANK YOU

Last weekend my Daughter lost her purse in a bar on a visit to Liverpool. It contained the usual cash, bank cards and driving licence etc.
Today the postman brought a jiffy bag that was sent by recorded delivery.
Inside it contained the purse, fully intact.
There was no note or anything in the package to say who had found and returned it, however according to the franking stamp, it cost £5 to post.
I'm so pleased that there are still honest people around, especially the person who returned it at a cost to themselves.
Whether the person is a mumsnetter or not I would just like to say a massive THANK YOU. 😁

There are some good people in this world
So happy she got it back

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 15:30

There are VeraWangTang. I can't wait to see her face when she comes home from work and I give it to her. She will be thrilled to bits, particularly as its an expensive purse that her boyfriend bought her for Christmas. 😁

TBH if I found a wallet again I would probably do that.

I found one in the train once and went to great trouble to track down the owner. He came to pick it up and made me feel like a thief. Another time I’d just send it on and not have to deal with someone personally.

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 15:39

That's awful of him to make you feel like that @GiveMeSteam.
I would like to find the sender just to say thank you and give some flowers if it's a female or a tenner for a couple of pints if it's a male.
I certainly wouldn't have made you feel bad.

That’s lovely. I was walking down my local high street (15 years ago), heavily pregnant, during what was shaping up to be a huge storm. I could just about keep myself upright as I struggled back to the car after my midwife appointment. A huge gust of wind took the whole folder, containing my notes, medical info, booking forms, but most importantly all the scan pictures of DD2, right out of my hand and up in to the air, dispersing it far and wide and blowing it away. There was nothing I could do in my state so I just went home and burst in to tears. But someone must have been watching because a few days later the surgery called to say my folder had been handed in. Almost everything was in it, including the scan pictures, so, whoever it was must have spent a while searching the streets for the contents. They never left their details but I’ll never forget what they did. Flowers

That's lovely, Who and Judas! It's nice to be reminded of good people in the world.

Crimebustersofthesea · 01/03/2019 15:42

Similar to givemeasteam I once found a purse, made a real effort to find the owner to return it and she didn't even say thank you. Some people are just rude. I'm glad your daughters purse was returned (and that you're nice enough to say thank you Smile)

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 15:44

@JudasHasComeIntoSomeMoney. That's lovely. I'm so pleased you got them back.Smile

Sorry to write something negative on a positive thread BTW! Not sure what came over me Grin I’m glad that this has worked out so well.

UtterlyDesperate · 01/03/2019 15:48

Could I suggest that you email the letters page of the Liverpool Echo? The person who sent it is more likely to see it there, plus they love good news stories like this.

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 15:49

I don't understand how anyone can lack gratitude at someone's honesty. I hope if they lose something again, then the next finder isn't so honest.
I was stunned when I opened it ( it was bad of me because it was addressed to her, but I was feeling it and thinking that feels like a purse, it can't be though, can it? So curiosity got the better of me Blush )
I don't normally open other people's post/parcels. Honest.

@UtterlyDesperate. That's a great idea, I never thought of that. I will do that 😁

I read it most days and love the letters from people living elsewhere writing to say that a stranger helped them /did something for them. Restores my faith in humanity! (Rather like this story Grin)

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 16:10

I have just sent an e-mail to the Liverpool Echo. I hope they print it @Utterly Desperate 😁

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 16:57

Can you let me know @Utterly Desperate please.
I will be at work so I may miss it.

Ooh, yes, of course! Even if it doesn't make tomorrow, I bet it'll be in this next week. The letters page is my guilty pleasure Grin

PivotPivotPivottt · 01/03/2019 17:18

That's lovely!

I would put a post on Facebook it will be easy to track the person down if you get a lot of shares.

Mrskeats · 01/03/2019 17:23

This is why I love Liverpool

EhlanaOfElenia · 01/03/2019 17:25

I once found a debit card on a street near my friend's house, googled the person and managed to find him (slightly unusual name). He had been visiting a friend around the corner from my friend's. He was really grateful. I dropped it off at his friends' house for him. He hadn't even realised he had lost it!

But why? The person doesn’t want to be found or they would have left their details?

fussychica · 01/03/2019 17:34

DS recently lost his wallet with everything in it. He cancelled all the cards immediately he noticed. When he got home someone had posted it through his letter box. It was totally intact. DS couldn't believe it. Restored his faith too. Once again no idea who the kind hearted person was.

PivotPivotPivottt · 01/03/2019 18:21

But why? The person doesn’t want to be found or they would have left their details?

Because the OP has stated she wants to find them to send a thank you gift.

Even if they don't come forward, if they see the post it would be nice for them to read how grateful the OP/daughter are.

WhoWasIt · 01/03/2019 18:21

That's lovely@Fussy 😁 I'm glad he got it back.
