Last weekend my Daughter lost her purse in a bar on a visit to Liverpool. It contained the usual cash, bank cards and driving licence etc.
Today the postman brought a jiffy bag that was sent by recorded delivery.
Inside it contained the purse, fully intact.
There was no note or anything in the package to say who had found and returned it, however according to the franking stamp, it cost £5 to post.
I'm so pleased that there are still honest people around, especially the person who returned it at a cost to themselves.
Whether the person is a mumsnetter or not I would just like to say a massive THANK YOU. 😁

Liverpool is ace ❤️

And nothing like its wholly undeserved negative historic reputation

When I was a student I left my purse on the bus with all my Christmas shopping money in it. My purse was returned but the buggars took the cash Angry

Having worked in an office that dealt with quite a bit of lost property as part of its role, and seen the total apathy and respect that most of the staff dealing with lost items showed, I’d always return something like a purse myself if there was an address such as in your case op. I used to try and deal with as much of it I could as most of it went in the bin unrecorded as dealing with it properly was a faff. Cash found was used to make up shortfalls in accounts and random bank cards just binned. If someone phoned up about lost property they’d make a thing of rattling the filing cabinet to make it sound to the person calling that they were looking for the item.

WhoWasIt · 05/03/2019 18:34

I'm sorry to hear that @PepperSteak. There's some horrible people around Sad

WhoWasIt · 05/03/2019 18:37

@CouldBeAnyoneReally at least you returned it where possible. It's decent ones like you that make people happy.

Do you think the pub staff sent it back? It would be nice to thank them, I agree. I hope they see your letter.

I left a bag with a lot of cash in it in the Percy Arms in Newcastle once, when it was a biker pub. It was handed in by a customer, and the staff have it back to me intact.

Bless them all.

CakeNinja · 05/03/2019 19:12

That’s so lovely!
I was once phoned by a pub on a Sunday to be told the cleaners had found my phone on top of the pool table that morning Shock - I hadn’t even noticed it was missing Blush
I went along and everything was in it, I left some cash for the person who had found it and bought the landlord (and myself) a drink to celebrate!
Some very decent people around, you just forget because there are also some less nice peopld about.

WhoWasIt · 05/03/2019 19:26

I wondered that @AutumnCrow. If perhaps a customer had handed it in at the bar and the staff had returned it. I hope they see my letter all the same. I bet you were leaping for joy at that persons honesty. 😁
That's great @CakeNinja. I'm glad you got it back. 😁

That's lovely OP, glad your daughter got her purse back.

I was in Liverpool two weeks ago (my home city but visiting from abroad), I have such mixed feelings about the place.

WhoWasIt · 05/03/2019 22:14

Thanks @HelmutFrontBut. Hope you had a great visit Smile

When DD was 16 or so she found a bag containing a few hundred pounds in the COOP car park and handed it in to the staff who took her name and address.

A couple of days later a very sweet elderly lady came round with a thank you card and a fantastic £20 reward. The money had been to pay a vet bill and she’d been very upset to think she’d lost it.

Our house was full of builders at the time who overheard, and everyone made a big fuss of DD. It was lovely actually; I was very proud.

UtterlyDesperate · 09/03/2019 20:01

Come soon, OP, bringing cake! GrinCake

Tinkly so lucky your DD was the one who found it - you must've been very proud!

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 09/03/2019 20:05

I'm really pleased to hear that.
Especially as it's Liverpool. Such a wonderful city but I still get upset that people have to make the same old stereotypical jokes about stealing etc to my family. So your good news has made me extra pleased

WhoWasIt · 09/03/2019 20:10

That's lovely @Tinkly. Glad that you've brought your daughter up to be a lovely honest young woman 😀

My dh was seriously ill in hospital years ago and after visiting him one day I brought the DC to a playground across the road from the hospital. They found a handbag tossed behind the slide, there was lots of personal items in it, just the cash was missing. We brought it to the nearest police station and they returned it to the owner. Turned out she was a nurse on dh's ward and she was so grateful to get it back. She was very kind to dh and kept a special eye on him after that and I think it really aided his recovery.

Crappygilmore · 09/03/2019 20:47

I found a credit card for a business once. Tracked down the address (pre internet days) and posted it sneakily with my name and addrss on it should they want to send a thank u card. Not a fucking thing. Not even a thank u. Now if i find anything i hand it in to the nearest police station.

Kbear · 09/03/2019 23:53

I handed in a wallet I found last Saturday- it had twenty's in about an inch thick . People came running back as I handed it to concierge at bluewater but they weren't overly grateful - probably in shock

Good karma coming my way though I thought

On Sunday the chimney fell on my sons new car ...

I found what looked like a teens purse a couple of years ago. It only had the leisure centre card in. I phoned them to get the phone number. Then phoned and spoke to the mother. Honestly, she made me feel like a stalker!
