I'm only vaguely aware of world book day from the threads on here but now it seems my place of work wants to join in and has asked all staff to join in with the fancy dress and pay a pound for charity. 
I work in a professional support/office/admin role with no customer facing activity and not even remotely in school/education setting. I think it might be someone in HR idea of a joke.
