I have the chance of a new job but it's shifts and I'd start sometimes at 6am would need to get up before 5am which I've never done and frankly don't fancy at all
I'm mid 50s
When do you get up when you're working?

An hour before start time which includes a 20 min commute

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 01/03/2019 08:14
  1. I leave the house at 7. That gives me chance to wake the dc (ds13 3 times!), ensure dd11 is organised, supervise breakfast, getting dressed, teeth and hair brushing for ds5 and ds6, and get myself dressed plus have a coffee. If I had no dc I’d get up 20 minutes before leaving!

What's the earliest you start Any?

I used to get up at 4:30 for an old job. I was never naturally awake then but I did get used to it!

Now between 7:15 and 7:30.

Decormad38 · 01/03/2019 08:22

6.30 then drive 26 miles then start 8.30 ish

Cliffdonville · 01/03/2019 08:24

445 every day, for a 730 start. I have a long commute, and need to walk the dog and get DD ready for nursery and myself look vaguely human in that time. It's not fun and I'm permanently tired!

SnuggyBuggy · 01/03/2019 08:26

6 am is my hard limit at least in an ideal world unless it was a decently renumerated unsocial hours role.

WFTisgoingoninmyhead · 01/03/2019 08:27

I get up at 5.45 every day, three days a week I go to the gym at 6.00am. I start work at 8.30am but I like to do my housework in the morning before work. I think the time before the world awakes is the most peaceful tranquil time of the day, no matter how old you are you will get used to getting up early and alter your life accordingly.

Nacreous · 01/03/2019 08:30

You can cut down your morning time hugely when necessary, assuming you don't have to look after kids at that time. Lunch made night before, bag packed, shower the night before. Breakfast at work if you can. Clothes laid out the night before. When I was regularly leaving the house at 6 am I got my morning alarm to out the house time down to around 15 mins.

Crimebustersofthesea · 01/03/2019 08:31

After 8 usually around 8.15. I work from home mostly. I'll be starting a new job soon though which will be more office based but I still won't get up much before 7.30, I'm really not a morning person Blush

BearSoFair · 01/03/2019 08:32

7am, start at 8:30. I'm lucky in this job, previously I've had to get up at 5 to start at 6.

SummersB · 01/03/2019 08:35

I do shifts and when I work a day shift I get up at 05:20 so I can go to the gym for an hour before work. But to be fair, I mostly do nights so this is only maybe 8 times a month or so.
I used to work in a job that had a 6am start 5 days a week many years ago and I got up at 5is then. It was ok, I got used to it pretty quickly.

Girlinthegarden · 01/03/2019 08:36

I'm a real morning person, usually up at 4, so this would suit me, especially if I finished earlier to compensate, but it really depends on your own sleep rhythm etc.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/03/2019 08:37

2(ish) hours before.

I used to leave the house at 6.20am. Getting up at 4.30ish killed me. I was exhausted all the time.

I start at 8am now, leave the house about 5 to and get up at 6am.

ssd · 01/03/2019 08:39

I've been in a part time job where I start at 10am so a 6am start sounds crazy just now but I know it isnt
It's call centre work full time with shifts

5:45 prompt.

I must admit I don’t understand the shower the night before advice. I usually shower or bath before bed but I couldn’t go out anywhere in the morning without having a shower first.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 01/03/2019 08:39

IF I get to sleep to my alarm, 1.5 hours before work starts. 10 min commute, does take me about 5/10 mins to rouse myself to get up.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 01/03/2019 08:40

Oh and that's at 7:30. Did wake up at 6 today, I'd say it only happens once or twice where I don't wake up before it goes off

Opheliasgoldenwine · 01/03/2019 08:40

So in conclusion, normally about 7ish Grin

AnyFucker · 01/03/2019 08:41

I start at 8am

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 01/03/2019 08:41

My start times are variable, but I allow 90 minutes from alarm to work. If the client's south of the river, two hours. Tomorrow it'll be 0500 alarm.

goldopals · 01/03/2019 08:42

Teacher 5:15. I like to spend a bit of time with my husband before he leaves for work as he has a fairly long commute. I also like to work without anyone at school because I get distracted easily

eclipse1808 · 01/03/2019 08:57

I start at 5.45, I wake at 5.15, have a shower, make a coffee in my travel cup and then only takes 15 minutes to get to work. 6 days a week but I’m stuck in that routine now so even on a Sunday I still wake at 5.15-5.30 naturally. Sometimes I can get back to sleep- most of the time I can’t!

bugaboo218 · 01/03/2019 08:58

04.30 as I have a long commute on the train by 06.00and at my desk just after 8. 00

itbemay · 01/03/2019 09:05

I currently get up at 6.30am for an 8.30 start with a 20 min commute. I previously used to work 6.30 - 6.30 12 hour shifts with an hour commute and used to get up at 4.30am - it was awful, i was always tired and I consider myself a morning person too.
