What settings do you have your central heating on?

I never really know whats 'normal' and just do what my mum did and have the heating on 2 hours in the morning and 2 at night. Do people run theirs all day with a thermostat on a certain temp?

Its currently 17 degrees in my living room and I'm thinking about turning the heating on but I have weird guilt about putting it on during the day.

Ours is always set at 20 degrees

RoseMartha · 28/02/2019 15:01

Set at 19. On one hour in morning and four in evening.

Ours is set to 17 during the day and 14 at night. We use an oil heater in the living room and toddlers bedroom. It's a big old house and it's really inefficient having it set higher.

About 19 degrees. On 6-10am and 5-10pm. I'll boost it during the day if I'm cold enough

ItProtectsMyHead · 28/02/2019 15:07

Ours is set to 20, on 6:30-8:30am and 6-8pm

Forgot to mention I am home most days with a 1yo.

A lot of my friends seem to have their heating on all day?!

30 mins in the morning at 18degrees, then just whenever I feel like it during the day. If you’re cold just put it in if I’m during the day, why wait for he evening to heat your house, that’s only for when you’re out during the day.

I like a cooler house and am at home all day, so I rarely have it on. But if I’m cold I put it on for 30mins and job done.

Nat6999 · 28/02/2019 15:18

Mine is set to 22, comes on at 7.00 in a morning & off at 9.30, back on at 3.00 & off at 9.30 at night. I can put it on during the day if I want but most days don't bother unless it is really freezing outside.

KinkyHair · 28/02/2019 15:29

I have mine set to 20 all day.

BibbityBobbityEars · 28/02/2019 15:31

Set to 18. Main source of heat is the aga and wood burners. The heating is used to take the edge off the cold in bedrooms for a couple of hours in the evening. It’s an old house and it would be more effective to burn £10 notes I think!

Stupomax · 28/02/2019 16:14

14-15 during the day and overnight, 20 in the evening but if it's really cold out we run the woodstove to help reduce the load on the boiler.

I'm the only one home during the day so I layer up and put a blanket over my lap.

I live in a very cold state so I have to have some heating on to stop the pipes freezing. It was -14 when we woke up this morning and the highest it'll get today is -2, which is pretty average for us in winter.

I have a very efficient new gas boiler and this costs me about $300 a month in winter.

18C when we're in, 15C at night and when we're out.

BlueJeansNiceTop · 28/02/2019 16:18

20-21 overnight and 22-23 in the day.

BlueJeansNiceTop · 28/02/2019 16:19

We have it on all day if we’re in but obviously turn it off if we go out!

Chasingsquirrels · 28/02/2019 16:23

Programmable thermostat, different temperatures at different times of the day and night and different schedules on different days of the week to fit what we do weekly.
If I'm home and feeling cold I'll turn it up.

QforCucumber · 28/02/2019 16:41

Ours is set to 18 degrees, 'on' all day if we are home at the moment, but knocks itself off when reaches temp. Otherwise the timer is 6am - 8am and 5pm - 9pm
