Pop ups on iPad

I can’t find a better place to start this but can anyone help me.

A few times when I’ve clicked to view threads today a spam pop up saying I’ve won a gift appears and I have to close the page to get rid it. Has also happened in a similar way on a local paper website. Can I defragment my iPad to stop this happening. I’m very IT stupid but any help would be appreciated because it’s very annoying.

iPads can't be defragged, the operating system doesn't work like that.

Have you tried pressing 'Settings', then 'Safari', and turning off 'pop-ups' by moving over the slider so that is turns green.

Usually it's something to do with the website you're on, rather than malware, on an iPad.

It’s not just your iPad, it’s happening on mine too! Must be a Mumsnet issue.

It was happening to me too. Local newspaper but not Mumsnet. I disabled pop-ups in Settings which has stopped it.

The block pop ups is already on- green, but thanks for info, I’m very unaware of what I can and can’t do. Is it worth blocking cookies? I always allow cookies, sucked into the bit where it says you limit your experience...
