For the second time in nearly 17 years, I've forgotten my 'phone.

I've left it at college after an evening class.

The tutor locked up after we left, the phone is locked with an eight digit PIN and it's old and tatty.

I've sent him an email about it just now.

It's everything to me now; camera, alarm clock, calendar reminder, map, reference library, emails - everything.

Sod's Law says I am off on a wee break for a few days, starting at 4am tomorrow morning and not coming back until Sunday.

The soonest I pick up my phone will be Monday. If it's not been nicked in the meantime.

The first thing I had to do was log into my emails and realised that the PIN to collect my Virgin train tickets required pen and paper so I can travel tomorrow.

I can honestly say this will be he longest five days of my life.

I will also have to buy a cheap travel alarm clock, bring my digital camera and charger, I will have to find a bank to transfer money (instead of using the phone app), bring an A-Z and remember to bring a notepad and pen/pencil to make notes.

Gaaaaaaaaaaah!

How did I manage to do this???

The second time since 2002.

I am not bringing my laptop. I'll be bringing enough hardware with me without this thing.

Might be tempted to go and stay in the (presumably cleaner?) two-bed upstairs... [whistles nonchalantly]

Sounds grim though! How long are you staying?

TanteRose · 01/03/2019 06:34

Hope you can at least enjoy the activities that you had planned OP!
And phew about your phone being safe and sound back home ConfusedGrin

As I said, adventure back in time to prehistoric times - you should write a book! Wink

3 nights. Leaving Sunday morning.

I'm tempted to buy a cheap phone to show the world the weirdness in the shower room.....

I have bought a cheap phone, with a camera, but it has no wifi capability and no cable with which to connect it to the laptop. Hmm

This will have to be continued.

The photos look rough and may not be worth uploading as well......

Just logged into my emails and found a reply to my message about resetting the boiler.

"Yay!!! You’re super woman. Ever since my boyfriend left the place has not been as orderly. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience. I hope you have a good stay for the next few days!" Hmm

Also a fair few emails from Airbnb admin requesting that I log in to see my notifications. Angry

I CAN'T!!! You won't let me!!

Poor you, OP! Hope the weekend's been worth all the trauma!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 02/03/2019 21:02

Best move yet.

Leave the 'studio' without the A-Z.

Genius move.

Every bus journey has been a bit of a magical mystery tour.....

And the cunting Airbnb website won't let me log in again...…Angry

Hi OP!
So you're surviving?
When are you reunited with your phone?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 03/03/2019 18:51

Late tomorrow morning.

Even then, it will need recharging before it's usable.

And I'm back.

I have scrubbed the place, left her with half a toilet roll(!), a bottle of washing up liquid and half a roll of kitchen paper, cleaned out the fridge, switched it off and left it open, given all the cupboards I used a wipe, stripped the bed (the stains! Shock), took my pillowcases off (yup), got rid of the rubbish, put the keys in the lock box and went home.

I took the Viakal, the Flash with bleach, the antibacterial wipes, the other kitchen roll and the rest of the toilet paper with me.

The only reason the washing up liquid stayed was that I didn't trust it to keep closed and not to pop open in the suitcase.

While I understand that Airbnb hosts are 'amateurs' and not supposed to be professional BnB hoteliers, there are some, like this one, who hire cleaners and have whole flats rented out on a second income basis.

She should have some inspection process going on.

Yay!!!!

Got my phone back and it's still on 40% battery life.

The clunk PAYG phone can't send photo messages, but the Samsung cable fits it.

I'll try to download photos tonight after work.

Pics or it didn't happen, OP! Grin

Seriously - glad you made it all weekend despite the trials and tribulations!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 05/03/2019 23:44

OK.

Pictures of a quality similar to a pinhole camera.

The weirdness in the shower room, showing what looks like it used to be a fire escape from the floor above......

The 'stairs' are hinged and seem to have been built so that whoever's escaping, from the blocked doorway above could kick them into position.

The woodwork was lumpy too.

At least you're home safe and sound after your adventures! This is how it was in the olden days before we had mobile phones.

ChesterGreySideboard · 05/03/2019 23:55

That fire escape thing is odd.

I will confess that the dirtiness doesn’t look so bad to me. Not ideal but not that dreadful.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 06/03/2019 00:28

Coffee machine with the broken lid, coffee beans and water still in situ and no telling how long it had been sitting there, coffee stains in the radiator and dirt all over the floor.

It wasn't as bad as some of the houses we see on those extreme cleaners programmes, but it was rank.

The reviews all praised how clean it was.....

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 06/03/2019 11:52

What a very odd fire-escape-toilet combo. I hate Air BnB for the reasons you have perfectly illustrated - one person's "clean" is another's minging.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 06/03/2019 13:36

I just don't understand why blocking a fire escape is legal.
