My iron is full of calcium, how to clean it properly?

Doing some ironing today, I turned on the steam and promptly covered my trousers in little bits of calcium. I tipped the water out of the tank and put in some white vinegar. I put this out through the steam function, cleared the holes on the plate with a long fork. What's the best way to proceed now, given that I don't want to walk round smelling like the local chippy?

Rinse it out, fill with clean water and steam it until it is empty. You should mix the vinegar with water when you clean it though, not neat vinegar. The smell wears off.

Thank you. I'll give it a go
