Tiny little wiggly brown things literally only mm long. I put the blackberries in a cup of water after my dd spotted one and they’ve now wriggled out. Apparently I’m a complete wimp at these kind of things...

Blackberries? It's February! Please tell me you live in Thailand or something?

Tolleshunt · 27/02/2019 19:46

Baby earwig?

Birdsgottafly · 27/02/2019 19:48

Standard insect that lives in blackberries.

You are supposed to always soak them to get rid of them.

If you don't normally soak, you've been eating them for years.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 27/02/2019 19:50

Yeah, they live in there. All wild blackberries have them. Either soak or suffocate them (in a Tupperware overnight). But if you’ve only just noticed, you’ve probably been eating them for years Grin

@KindergartenKop Tesco’s blackberries. I wish they were freshly picked ones, probably less bugs on them !

Omg I literally pluck them from a bush and eat them in the summer. To think of all these bugs I’ve eaten over the years Shock

Woah woah woah there. Are there any other fruits that should be given more than a cursory rinse under the tap? I might turn into one of those bugs given how many of them I must have eaten over the years.

netflixcrazy · 27/02/2019 22:18

Oh damn it I also threw away half the contents of my fridge, threw the water down the toilet I used to eventually get rid of the bugs on the blackberries and then bleached the toilet. I genuinely thought I’d had an invasion of weirdo fridge bugs or something. 🐛

Gross isn't it. I only realised last year. Now I soak them in salt, then rinse.
It has taken the fun out of BlackBerry picking for my kids.

netflixcrazy · 27/02/2019 22:20

@Jamhandprints it’s destroyed any love I had for them that is for sure. To be fair I’d already eaten a few and my dd had also put them all in her pasta while I turned my back and then she said mummy why is my dinner moving SadSad

🤢

I only noticed them last year from ones I'd bought, they freaked me out! I gave them to some kids I worked with on a bit of kitchen roll so they were visible.

So they live in all blackberries you say? I shall be soaking any I get in the future, although are raspberries and strawberries okay?

Well they haven't killed you yet.

Surely you should only have a real problem with this, if you are a vegetarian, (or you are the bug) Grin
