Solutions for DD's very fine hair

DD (7) has long-ish, very fine / slippery hair. She also, according to the hairdresser, is often growing new hair near her forehead so that it feels like we have been in an 'growing out a fringe' phase for years.

I'll be the first to admit I am a bit rubbish with hair, but I have tried quite a few things now (pony tail, one plaits, multiple plaits, pig tails). She always has to wear a hairband in addition to keep the front hair back.

No matter how hard I try, her hair never seems to stay in place and when she comes home from school some/most of it has fallen out of whatever the hair style was and it's all in her face.

Any tips from experts? I have tentatively suggested a short bob to DD who actually is quite keen on the idea, but I do worry she will regret it as her hair has taken long to grow to this length.

Maybe there is a miracle product?

If she's only 7, I would go for a shorter hairstyle until she's old enough to wrangle her own hair. It will grow soon enough.
I had ultra-fine silky hair as a child: it looks pretty enough but it's a giant pain to keep neat (as you know!).

Most kids come home from school like that regardless of their hair type. My youngest has the thickets head of hair ever and looks like she has been dragged through a hedge when I pick her up.

My eldest had fine hair and we went for a Bob when she was 5 as it was a nightmare. It did grow regather well and from about 8/9 onwards she had it past her shoulders

I had hair like that too. Really fine and because I am very fair you could see my scalp through it! My mum made me have short hair for years, which I hated, but now my hair is really thick - still fine and slippery and won’t stay in a ponytail even - but I have a lot of it!

Yes my own hair is a bit like this too (fine but lots of it) but it is wavy which has made it easier to manage / less slippery. DD's is very straight.

I'd never insist on short hair but if DD does want it that might be the way to go.

Mine is fine and straight, it tangles easily and is very fly away, I lived in ponytails throughout my childhood. I found that some bobbles however, just don't do. If they are too loose at 2 loops and too tight at three... Then either they will fall out or dd will take them out as they are uncomfy. Trick is to find a good fitting bobble. A bit if hairspray wouldn't harm either.

@Lightofday yes that's exactly it, we often struggle with the two loops too loose, three loops too tight issue!

I was hoping not to have to go down the hairspray route (but at least it might be nit preventative?)
