Frozen rubber gloves! Why didn’t anyone tell me?

Just watching new tv series set in America and lady just given birth, her dr just told her to fill hospital disposal glove with water and put into freezer, then when it’s frozen insert a finger into vagina to help with pain! Is this real? Ive had 4 children and sat on the super comfy air cushion but never had this told to me. It sounds wonderful just what I needed years ago to ‘cool’ the area down. Anyone had this tip from maternity staff?

Insert the FINGER?

I sat on a glove full of ice after I had my third but there was no insertion of frozen fingers

AnnieOH1 · 26/02/2019 21:20

Apparently frozen condoms work too. Never heard of it before. Not sure I would want anything THAT cold down there.

ReaganSomerset · 26/02/2019 21:22

But what if you stick to it? Like when your tongue sticks to an ice lolly. But ten thousand times worse.

Do you not get condoms in the baby box for that reason?

Lwmommy · 26/02/2019 21:23

Wouldnt it take ages to freeze solid? I just wet a few maternity pads and stuck them in the freezer. Blessed relief.

The ones i covered in witch hazel and froze were delightful, so.so.so soothing.

I remember when I had DS 14 years ago the ward staff gave me a frozen gel filled ice pop kinda thing for my knickers. My god that took the sting out of my three layers of 14 stitches. I imagine the finger thing would work similar!

Fairylea · 26/02/2019 21:26

Wow after giving birth the last thing I’d want is anything inserted! I shudder just thinking about it!

SnugglySnerd · 26/02/2019 21:27

I know what you're watching - Life in Pieces. DH and I are hooked!
Given that the advice when putting frozen peas on a sprained ankle is to wrap them in a towel I think inserting a frozen glove would be highly inadvisable!

Windingstreams · 26/02/2019 21:28

Your vaginal tissue is so delicate I’m not sure a frozen glove would be the best idea. Plus germs from freezer and healing wounds?

BertieBotts · 26/02/2019 21:28

Erm no thanks... But yes the frozen pad with witch Hazel and calendula cream are amazing.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/02/2019 21:30

Insert the FINGER? Grin
Exactly. No thanks.

Aquilla · 26/02/2019 21:37

I used a frozen ice pop (plastic tube ones) but it didn't actually go up my er passage.

AudTheDeepMinded · 26/02/2019 21:46

Pretty sure I planned for nothing to be inserted in my vagina ever again after I gave birth...

origamiunicorn · 26/02/2019 21:50

Insert the FINGER? I cackled so loudly at this comment my napping DP on sofa next to me just jumped out his sleep 😂😂

Lovemusic33 · 26/02/2019 21:51

After I had dd I was given a glove full of ice, it was the best thing ever, I didn’t insert in in my vagina though (couldn’t even touch my vagina) but I damaged my coccyx giving birth (from a previous break) and was in agony until a lovely midwife gave me the glove.

PartyHatOnADog · 26/02/2019 21:52

Good lord, no.

Go for the thumb.

mineofuselessinformation · 26/02/2019 21:53

Ummm, freezer burn, anyone? Shock

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/02/2019 22:16

origamiunicorn DH asked me what I was laughing at, I told him it involved frozen rubber gloves and vaginas, he said “mumsnet?” 🤷‍♀️

origamiunicorn · 26/02/2019 22:18

@greatduckcookery Brilliant! 😂

Mixingitall · 26/02/2019 22:19

Distilled witch hazel poured all over the pad helped relieves pain and swelling.

fukkigucci · 26/02/2019 22:21

I gave birth in America. It was AMAZING. After the birth they gave my (XL) frozen condoms. They were amazing. Not for inserting, just for putting in underwear. Had my best recovery of all 3 births

Motherofcreek · 26/02/2019 22:21

Nothing was inserted in my fanjo for a long time after my births

ahtellthee · 26/02/2019 22:27

I had four c-sections and I used to keep nappies sprinkled with water in the freezer to put over my wound. It was amazing!

ladybird69 · 26/02/2019 22:28

I had the ring to sit on and the warm baths to wee in! Episiotomy ventouse and back to back delivery really fucked me over down there, but nobody seemed to care. The numbness of the ice would have been so appreciated.

I didn't get any of this fun stuff (wasn't told about any of it either) with either of mine and I got so many stitches both times as well. Didn't even get a fancy doughnut cushion. Almost makes me want to have another. Not quite, but almost. I'm into the teen years now so don't think I could start again. GrinWink
