Any places with a good lesbian community on the SW coast?

I'd like to move to the coast and tend to favour the south west/ south coastline. I'm thinking Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset. But would also love to find somewhere where I'm not as isolated as where I live now, where I'm the only gay in the village.

Wondering if there's a Hebden Bridge-by-the-sea, that I've not yet heard of? Any suggestions?

😂😂 I know loads in Somerset/Devon. The ones I know live inland though. Topsham? Brixham?

Kez200 · 26/02/2019 21:21

Id imagine Totnes would be really inclusive, although Id hope that was the case anywhere nowadays.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/02/2019 21:57

I was going to say Totnes!

Scarscar · 26/02/2019 22:27

Oooh thanks, just had quick google of Totnes, it looks promising. It's probably the one bit of the whole of the SW coastline I haven't been to.
I think a weekend checking out the Totnes/Brixham/Topsham area is on the cards.

Sidmouth

FermatsTheorem · 26/02/2019 22:44

Totnes definitely yes.

Exeter has quite a sizeable lesbian community (I used to play on a women's football team based just outside there which was about 90% gay). Topsham is very pretty, and quite a kind of trendy knit-your-own-museli type of place (in a nice way).

HowlsMovingBungalow · 26/02/2019 22:48

Sidmouth if you are over 65.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/02/2019 22:51

I really can't imagine anyone under 80 actively choosing to live in Sidmouth.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 26/02/2019 22:55

Ha @EmmaGrundyForPM - Gods waiting room!

MrsFionaCharming · 26/02/2019 23:23

I also came on to say Totnes!

Scarscar · 26/02/2019 23:26

Grin I'm 40 and not really looking for a sugar mummy, so might pass on Sidmouth for a few decades.

I had wondered about Exeter, my younger cousin went to uni there and loved it. I'm more into surf/footie/sports than muesli knitting I must admit.

Possibly not Totnes then, unless you’re also into joss sticks and not vaccinating your children.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 26/02/2019 23:34

Exeter is probably more apt OP.

Another vote for Exeter!

FermatsTheorem · 27/02/2019 19:21

Topsham is effectively a suburb of Exeter (sorry, Topshamites, but you know it is - 10 minutes on the bus from the city centre, buses every 10 to 15 minutes...)

Scarscar · 27/02/2019 19:35

That's worth knowing. I'm planning a roadtrip to South Devon and I'll come and have a nose around all the suggestions.

Bournemouth has a large gay community.

tierraJ I spent some time in Bournemouth about 10 years ago and wondered what it was like now. It was a bit retirement-y when I was there but showed signs of becoming a bit up and coming because of all the students.

I don't think Topsham is very knit your own muesli, Totnes, yes.

Lots of people there have boats and/or kayaks because it is on the river. I've not heard of it having a particular lesbian community though. Exeter might be better as it is bigger and of course it has an openly gay MP!
