What did you use to love as a child that you can't see the attraction of now?

I was looking back to when I was a teenager on a school trip to the Barbican to see, I forget, probably The Importance of being Ernest. And before it started a group of us had a grand old time riding the lifts. Confused A friend of mine who used to bunk off lessons regularly would find it great fun to hide under the stage during assembly. Why??? It was dark, damp and full of creepy crawlies. She shakes her head and laughs at herself now.

I also tried a cough candy the other day (which I used to love on the rare occasions I had them). I couldn't finish it. Too much sugar in one go (probably just as well).

Anyone else want to share their remembered pleasures which turn out to be a bit meh, or 'WTF was all that about?' as an adult?

I can't think of anything!!!! Make suggestions for me guys?

FraggleRocking · 26/02/2019 20:53

Ice skating - loved it as a child and went most weekends with friends into my teens.
As an adult I cannot fathom the appeal of going round in circles on ice in rented boots.

Omahasomewhereinmiddleamerica · 26/02/2019 20:58

I still love penny sweets and ice skating! I'm not a fan of green flies, I remember spending a summer keeping them as pets Confused

Some books I used to love I now find dreadful. Couldn't wait to get my daughter the Jolly Christmas Postman because I remember it so fondly but it's awful and I really don't like it but she loves it.

Got really excited to see Trio bars in the shop last year but they are not at all as I remember. Also still on food, I'm sure Arctic Roll used to be nicer.

Elflocks · 26/02/2019 21:26

Yeah, I experienced the Trio disappointment too SparkleBanana.

Pets, always wanted them as a kid. Much to
my kids dismay I have no desire to get one.

Puddings, used to live for puddings. Hardly ever have them now.

Super noodles/pasta n sauce, loved both, now the smell makes me heave.

Branded clothing, there was a time when brands were so important and I would covet certain trainers/clothes/bags.
Now I don't actively avoid branded clothes but I don't have that need to wear what everyone else is wearing.

Take That, adored them once.

Crosse and Blackwell's tinned chicken supreme! Horribly bland. I used to love it and had it with rice whenever my mum made curry for dinner. I didn't like anything spicy back then. Silly me!

Iamboudicca · 26/02/2019 22:37

Dogs. I was convinced I would be a champion trainer ( of agility papillions.) I can still recognise pretty much every dog breed there is but all that means is I can identify the dog thats just crapped on the pavement/park/cycle track!

MothershipG · 26/02/2019 22:48

The Beatles & ABBA, find them so simplistic and a bit tedious now.

I can't believe people saying dogs, i wasn't allowed pets so was very excited when at 40 I got my first dog - and it was even better than I thought it would be!!

Jsmith99 · 26/02/2019 22:56

McDonalds milkshakes. I used to love them, but would find them far too sickly sweet & artificial tasting now. Ditto whippy ice cream from a machine. Yuck!
