Alexa has added a sex toy to my shopping list!!!

Sitting in the office this morning a colleague is talking about how random items are added to her shopping list by Alexa without her asking.

I have one in the office so innocently asked in front of everyone "Alexa, what's on my shopping list?" That was my first mistake!

She replies with - Air freshener and a Dog butt plug! WTAF????

Of course I then had to go on Amazon and they really are a thing! Fluffy tails attached to a silver ermm plug.

I ask if you could all check your shopping lists to see what weird and wonderful things she has added to your list -and make me feel better about the butt plug!-

Do you have DC's? Adult DS used to take great delight in adding random shit to my shopping list when he lived at home.
I'd very often open my list in Tesco to find a 12" Dildo added to it or 30 tins of beans.

The other week we were in the front room & I heard the Echo Show in the kitchen saying something about shopping lists out of the blue.

I googled and people have had Dildo Peppers and Dildo toothpaste added to their lists, its very odd!

I've not had anything rude added, but she does seem to interpret "mustard powder" as "mustard floating on Windermere" which tickled me immensely

Also, my 5yo has worked out that things on the shopping list get bought, so had a spell of adding sweeties, jelly and crisps to the list when I wasn't around

My MIL has an Alexa and my BIL knows she buys her rice off Amazon. So he asked her Alexa to buy 13 boxes of rice. MIL buys 5kg of rice at a time. It ended up being something stupid like nearly £200

I think Amazon needs to implement something so people can't add stupid random shit to your shopping list...

They kind of do. The shit I find in my list is on the Alexa app, and not actually in my shopping basket on Amazon. So I add stuff to my lists at home and then physically open the list to view it on my phone in store.
There is a setting where you can prevent the devices from actually ordering anything online without permissions.

Sometimes its just about knowing what to say though, so if your MIL has ordered a specific rice before Aint she can just say 'Alexa, reorder rice' and should get the one she regularly buys.

Sometimes Alexa is just an arse.

I was wrong! I had to go on the app to delete the list and this was what she added...

Yep BIL just went "Alexa order 13 boxes of rice." And she did!

I don't understand Alexa but I do know that the one that belongs to the lady I do an online exercise class with started talking about farting and making farty noises during a class once and she was so embarrased and frustrated because she couldn't get it to stop.

I think she has teen DC so I assume they were doing from somewhere else?
