Is there such a thing as nice instant gravy that I can buy from a supermarket??

I usually make onion gravy to have with sausages and mash but I don't think I have time. Is there anything that you can buy that is actually nice? I am 52 and have never bought gravy granules but I think tonight might be the night. Exciting times.

I like bisto best, make it nice and thick.

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2019 17:57

Bisto is perfectly acceptable

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/02/2019 17:58

Another vote for Bisto Best.

Whichever one you get, you’ll need to use far more granules than it says to use on the tub. Using the recommended amount lead to really watery gravy.

Kallo do a nice one in sachets which is gluten free.

ginghamstarfish · 25/02/2019 18:00

Bisto Best, have used several but the Roast Onion one is nicest.

gigi556 · 25/02/2019 18:02

I also vote for Kallo

Ellieboolou27 · 25/02/2019 18:02

Bistro ahhhhh lovely and thick

caughtinanet · 25/02/2019 18:05

It will depend on your taste buds, the only way to know is to buy some and see if you like the taste.

I agree that if you like anything other than watery gravy you'll need to put more in that the instructions say.

Loseitandkeepitlost · 25/02/2019 18:07

Another vote for bisto best.

Bisto best every time. Normal bisto is not as good.

Frouby · 25/02/2019 18:09

I use those pouches, more expensive but quick and easy. If you are near a tesco they do a shallot gravy which is lovely and M and S do a nice chicken gravy too.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 25/02/2019 18:10

You can buy ready-made fresh gravy I think - no idea how nice it is

Fazackerley · 25/02/2019 18:11

Chicken or beef??

Yep another for Bisto Best

greenelephantscarf · 25/02/2019 18:16

beef.
and yes to bisto
or knorr gravy gel.

and yes to using more powder/less water for nice consistency. I use almost double powder/gel because I like it quite rhick.

Fazackerley · 25/02/2019 18:26

Are any of these vegetarian out of interest?

SpringForEver · 25/02/2019 18:28

I used to like Bisto but I won't buy gravy that contains palm oil. Bisto powder didn't (might do now) but granules does.

HalfBloodPrincess · 25/02/2019 18:37

@twosoups1972 normal bisto is vegetarian but the best varieties aren’t

SchlickShlock · 25/02/2019 18:38

I love the knorr gravy pots. Perfect gravy everytime and so much nicer than Bisto!!

yorkshirepud44 · 25/02/2019 18:39

Is the roast onion version not vegetarian? I've been eating it for years Blush

yorkshirepud44 · 25/02/2019 18:43

Googled it. Yes it is. Phew. Smile

HalfBloodPrincess · 25/02/2019 18:44

Yep, you’re right. sorry I only had the chicken and beef ones in the cupboard for reference.

huntinghighandlow · 25/02/2019 18:45

I've just discovered southern style gravy in b&m and home bargains £1 for 6 portions it's gorgeous and tastes just like the kfc one you just add hot water to whatever consistency you like comes in a takeaway style plastic tray so can use as much as you like
