Mouth ulcers in DD8

InsomniaTho · 25/02/2019 07:59

DD(8) has had ulcers on her tongue on and off for about 3 weeks now.

She refuses to use Iglu, Bonjela or Anbesol because of the taste.

What else can I try and when should I be seeing a GP about it?

You say she'd had them on and off for 3 weeks? So not the same ulcer lasting 3 weeks? If the same one(s) for 3 weeks see GP.

If recurring ulcers it may be worth looking at the cause. My first thought would be boiled sweets such as lollies or cola cubes etc. Something where the tongue is constantly rubbing against the sweet and becoming sore. Similarly with sherbert or sour sweets such as sherbert fountains or warheads.

Also a lack of iron/vitamin b can result in ulcers so have a good look at her diet, is she getting enough?

If it's ulcers coming and going I would say reduce her sugar/acid intake significantly. Especially boiled and acidy sweets, ketchup, salt and vinegar crisps etc. Increase her vitamin b/iron (Sorry, am sure a deficiency of one can result in ulcers but I forger which). Possibly a vitamin supplement for a little while.

If you are concerned do see your GP.

Hi, my DD had them since a very young age (basically, when she started on solids) - we had her tested for celiac, gluten intolerance etc etc. They all came back negative.
Our Dd is also prone to eczema and has had RS virus on a few occassions, so when we saw pedeatrician she said it may just be one of those things.
Would your DD use a mouth wash, I think Cordisol is good for ulcers?

Try a toothpaste that doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). MY DD suffered awfully with mouth ulcers until we changed her toothpaste.

It’s odd - they’re in the same place and they’re the same ones, they will disappear for a day or two then come back.

She doesn’t eat sweets at all. She’s more of a would eat a whole block of cheese if she was allowed sorta kid (doesn’t get that from me I love sweets Blush )

I’ll get some vitamins today, and the toothpaste and mouthwash mentioned above.

Thanks
