Which films did you love as a child?

Especially if you wanted to watch them again and again?

Some of mine were:
Mary Poppins: I watched it recently, still as wonderful and whimsical as ever. I saw it so many times as a child.
Wizard of Oz.
Home Alone.
Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory (Gene Wilder).
Clue - I loved its wit, despite its murderous nature!

Glad to see so many votes for Return to Oz. Lots of people I know think that's the scariest film from childhood ever! Shock

As well as films like Mary poppins, bedknobs & broomsticks etc I had a really strong Judy garland obsession from the ages of 8-10 ish, and repeatedly watched films with her in, especially Easter Parade and Meet me in St. Louis. And wizard of Oz of course.

I had an ectopic, left to self resolve, after 10 months trying to conceive a second DC. It became apparent that the scarring on the tube was so bad it did have to be removed. After recovering from surgery I fell pregnant again 5 months later and had a miscarriage. Three months later conceived again and although we had been trying, when I got that BFP I was devastated. I smoked two cigarettes having not smoked for years and cried my eyes out. I was not ready to go through another loss.

Anyway, you’ve guessed the rest.... BFP is now 3. DS1 is 7 and it’s not the age gap I ever wanted but actually it’s worked brilliantly. That horrible time feel like a bad dream now.

I'm too old to have been able to watch them again and again - if only they had invented videos earlier Grin

I loved Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, The Princess Bride, ET, The Goonies and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

My friends were all obsessed with Grease, Dirty Dancing, Cocktail and Top Gun, as were their older sisters. I didn't really but I had to sit through them a hundred times with everyone else. I can still sing every bloody word of those songs Grin

Roomba · 26/02/2019 11:05

I feel old too - I went to see Tiy Story in the cinema with my American boyfriend when it came out. So I would have been 20 at the time I think? He was super excited to go see it, I was Hmm and kept asking why on earth he wanted to go see a kids cartoon! I really liked it though - watched all of them with my kids and they love them too.

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 26/02/2019 12:39

@Paddingtonthebear @Plump82 I have found my people it seems! My little brother used to call it "high cockelawrum"

Plump82 · 26/02/2019 12:47

@barbiegirl @Paddintonthebear ive been singing that song for days now!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/02/2019 12:52

Didn't have VCRs when I was small, so not so easy to watch again & again!

Believe me, once the BBC had the rights to a film, you'd get to see it again and again whether you liked it or not!

Anyway, 1960s baby here...
Whistle Down the Wind - agree with a PP, so innocent and beautful
The Railway Children
My Fair Lady
Singin' in the Rain
Oliver!
And also Carry on Screaming was my only favourite Carry On film.

I could probably watch My Fair Lady, Singing' in the Rain and Oliver one after the other on a loop for eternity.

Witchend · 26/02/2019 13:52

We didn't have a video player (my parents got one in 2001 due to getting one someone was throwing out!) but the ones we'd always look out for were:

One of our Dinosaurs is missing
Carry on Don't lose your head
Clue

bluetit101 · 26/02/2019 14:41

@LimeKiwi

Teen Witch was my favourite!! I know all the songs still to this day 🙈 it was on Netflix until recently

Birdsgottafly · 26/02/2019 14:42

I'm 51, so a lot of mine have been mentioned.

No-ones mentioned the Elvis Films, very sexist now, but fun to watch, then.

Also the Pink Panther, Peter Sellers.

bluetit101 · 26/02/2019 14:43

@LimeKiwi

My mistake, it's still on Netflix! 🙌🏼
