OMFG rats

Just had a bloody big shock to find a family of rats feasting on my bird table and hanging off the bird feeders! I have seen the occasional rat around here but this was at least 6. I love feeding the birds and watching them. Does this mean I need to stop?

We had one last year. I read up - rats need 3 things - water, shelter and food. They are also neophobic so they dislike change. I couldn’t get rid of the water (we live by a stream!) so I moved furniture around, sprayed the area with vinegar and bicarb (changed the smell without damaging plants) and took away the food. Never saw Roland again:
