Is the iPhone X worth it?

I am due an upgrade in April but can upgrade now if I want to.

I quite liked my current phone (7+) but I cracked the screen and had it replaced and since then it hasn’t worked very well.

I was wondering about the Xs but am not sure about no home button, how does that work?

I use my phone a lot!

You soon get used to not having a home button. It uses facial recognition instead.

The camera is excellent. The only downside is that it is much bigger so doesn’t fit safely in back pockets.

But that’s to unlock it isn’t it? How do you get from one app to another?

I know what you mean about being unsure about the home button, but after less than a day i got used to just swiping.

Agree with @BibbityBobbityEars that the camera is AMAZING. Streets ahead of any of the previous iPhones.

@immortalmarble You just swipe up to get off the app your in & go onto another.
I wasn't sure how it was going to work either but don't miss the button at all now!

I see: thank you!

And to download apps you double click on the side button

Agree within a day you’ll be used to it. I get muddled when I use my children’s older phones now.

CakeNinja · 24/02/2019 08:54

I don’t know about being “worth it” - it seems to be as “worth it” as my 7, but it’s a fine enough phone!
The swiping up takes a few days to get used to but I don’t think about it now.
It doesn’t seem to be any different to my old phone though, the camera is good but it was good on the 7 too.

Sorry for the hijack but has anyone gone from specifically the 7 plus to the XS and can comment on photo quality? My 7+ is fine but I'm sometimes a little disappointed with the printed photos (especially when I've had to zoom) and can't decide if it's worth the upgrade!

I'll give you 2 perspectives.

DD had a 7+ and got an XS. She likes it, but doesn't love it; for her the 7+ was a big step up from her previous iPhone and she already had a great camera on that. This isn't such a big step up.

I got an XR from an iPhone 6. I absolutely love it. It's so much better. The battery life is great and the camera is wonderful in comparison (it was the camera that gave me the push to upgrade).

Wrt no home button, you'll get used to that in no time. The big screen is fantastic and swiping is easy.

Also, when you see the XS and XR side-by-side the XS's screen is outstanding - so clear and the colours are so defined.

Everything on the phone is swipe, no pressing iyswim.

Meet0nTheledge · 24/02/2019 09:08

I went from a 6 to an Xs. The swiping is very easy to get used to, although I still find myself forgetting that you have to swipe diagonally down to open the control centre.

I love the single press on the lock screen to activate the camera or torch. The screen is so clear, battery life amazing and camera so much better than the 6.

Scoleah · 24/02/2019 19:42

I went from a 7 to a XS.
& to be honest I was really excited about Portrait Mode & Memoji!
I've used Memoji twice, and I find my Portrait mode photos mostly look slightly blurry so use the normal camera which was really good on my 7 anyway!
I've got a Big case on there to protect it as it was so expensive, so I don't really notice the edge to edge screen!
It is a great phone though, feels expensive
