The DC have a toy. It is one of those number rearranging thingies, where the aim is to get the numbers back in the correct order. None of us can remember the original arrangement of said numbers.

There is a household dispute DH is wrong over which configuration is correct. Please see images.

I’m great at these puzzles and the ones I’ve done have the space at the bottom right hand corner.

Are there any explanations as to why one is correct and not the other? We each have our own justifications for our preferred arrangement. For the first one, the space is to accomodate zero. For the second one, the space is partly to accomodate the invisible number 9 and partly because it feels wrong to leave a gap before the 1.

I used to get those in my Christmas stocking every year (or so it seems.
They always had a little rubber ring in the space where the 9 would be when they were opened.

I've done a search (they're called sliding puzzles, I think) and it seems that the space is usually in the bottom right corner.
