Know Leeds? Fancy being in charge of my life for the day?

I’m on the way to Leeds. I need to amuse myself in the city centre for about 6/7 hours.

Most urgently I will need breakfast once I get there, and possibly lunch. Because all new places are really just new eating opportunities.

Then, my day is yours. What shall I do? I like a mooch around shops, I’m vaguely cultured and easily entertained.

I’ll start at the train station and need to finish near Chapel Alperton for late afternoon.

You’re in charge! Go...

Mrs Atha's is a 10 min walk from the station and is a great breakfast place. After that you could go too the Victoria quarter for naice shops.

If you want somewhere a bit closer Layne's espresso is 2 mins from station and very nice coffee and pastries

Banyan’s just over from the train station is lovely for food.

Oh I recommend La Bottega Milanese in The Light for breakfast! Best coffee in Leeds without a doubt and all sorts of Italian breakfast (and lunch) food on offer. It’s not the fanciest place but I miss being able to get my coffee there every morning.

A predictable suggestion, but the Victoria Quarter has lovely shops, including Harvey Nichols. Also their cafe and the Ivy are up there, and then you can go over to the new arcade where John Lewis is, which has other lovely expensive shops.

Head out of the station across the city square, you need to be up and to the right. Aim for Briggate. There’s also the Trinity shopping centre (more to the right as you come out of the station) but I think the other end of the city is better. Not much opens before ten though!

There’s an art gallery up that top end but I’ve never been in so can’t say it’s any good! .

I’m sure the ones who know Leeds better will be here soon!

Have a good day.

The tiled cafe at the art gallery is beautiful, good for peoplewatching too. Plus you can mooch around the gallery afterwards.

Interesting museum in the old civic theatre with history from Leeds and much further away.

Shopping of course - all the chain stores you can imagine in the city. Victoria quarter is nice but expensive. Trinity has good places to eat (Trinity kitchen confuses me though). Have a look in the corn exchange for one-off shops.

The river and canal are beautiful but you need to go a bit outside the centre to find the nice bits. Water Lane Boat house is nice.

Olive & rye for breakfast - delicious! Then I second the tiled hall cafe it's so beautiful but I'd go for coffee & cake later on.

Tapped for lunch. Its a pub that does log fired pizzas and has its own micro brewery. They sell nice wine too.

Trinity Kitchen food area in Trinity Centre is (loud but) nice if you want a quick, budget lunch and shops. Lindt store pick n mix is great!
