In a occupational health check does your manager get info from your health records! I have a mental health problem and feel embarrassed if they knew.

I've been offered a job with the NHS. I have social anxiety and sought help from the local self referral nhs mental health services 3 years ago.

Its occurred to me just now- what info do they get from your GP records and does your line manager have access to it. Will they know I have social anxiety? I would feel embarrassed about it if they knew. And I am worried it would go against me too, that I am unsuitable for the job.

They get no info from your medical records unless they specifically ask for your consent to request them from your doctor.

But are they referring you to OH as part of pre-employment checks? Seems odd, although I don't work in the NHS.

I've worked for a few NHS trusts. I've never been asked to share my GP record. The most I've been asked is to provide a copy of my vaccinations. I imagine if you declare a disability they'd want more information but that would be the occupational health department that would request it, and only with your permission. I don't think your line manager would need to know unless it effected you work. My manager doesn't even know I've accessed the trust counselling services last year because it had nothing to do with my work.

I don't think I am getting referred to occupational health. I just filled out a form online asking about all sorts of vaccinations I've had and q list of other stuff and there was a bit where I had to consent for records to be checked from gp

No, that won’t go beyond occ health. I had an in work occ health consult recently and she wrote a report to my manager, but I asked what she would include first and didn’t say anything I din’t want included. She kept it vague.

I'm about to be employed by NHS and my line manager was asked to call me by Occupational Therapy to discuss reasonable adjustments but didn't have any information about conditions that I had disclosed. I just said that no adjustments were necessary and that I didn't have any in my current role. It was just a quick five minute conversation.

The NHS has many many staff with past or current MH issues, amd physical health issues - of course, as its a huge employer.

They have to have your consent to access records. Records will only be seen by oh, if there is an issue then oh well all for your consent and won't share any info without it.
