Smear tests and conversation

So I've noticed a few smear test chats recently. I just wanted to ask if it's weird if the patient (me) strikes up a conversation with the nurse? Whilst she's smearing away! I know she can't talk all the way through as she's concentrating on what she's doing! But she's also my asthma nurse who I see twice a year who generally talks to me throughout my asthma check.
I know smears can be awkward for some people (me including, I feel embarrassed for a few seconds) I know the silence is due to her concentration but I'd like to lighten the mood as such. (I have yearly smears due to hpv and feeling abit apprehension towards this one for some reason and wanting to lighten the mood a little!!

I think it's absolutely fine to have a little chit chat with the nurse. Like you say there may times when she has to concentrate and can't reply straight away but as long as you prepare for that and don't take it as the nurse not wanting to engage with you.

She’s probably glad of it. Talk away.

Mine asked me what kind of dogs I had while trying to locate my cervix 🤔

I think we chat. I’ve no shame after all the babies that fell out of there.
