if you weren't going to have a 'wedding dress', what would you have?

The idea of a gown and a veil and white makes me Shock and we're having the simplest ceremony anyway.

I like the idea of yellow but the colour just does not suit me. I also like a pale or bright blue, which I do suit.

I wear a lot of shift dresses but I like 50s style dresses too.

My friend wore a sort of mushroom colour. It was lovely without being wedding gowny

Sexnotgender · 22/02/2019 19:42

I had a pale peach/blush pink skirt and top from coast.

itspronouncedcat · 22/02/2019 19:43

What about length? I'm the height of shite so easily drowned in lots of material.

Go onto ASOS and filter by bridesmaids dresses. They're all traditional shapes but are in lovely colours. And free returns so you can try stuff on and return forever, basically.

Tavannach · 22/02/2019 19:47

Something like this
Or do you want something shorter?

ABlether · 22/02/2019 19:47

I wore a tea length dress in a pale colour. It wasn't a wedding dress because I wouldn't have been comfortable in that, but it looked "special" and I felt great.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 22/02/2019 19:48

One of my friends wore a beautiful peach jumpsuit, looked amazing. Another wore a full length midnight blue dress and also look lovely.

Bayleyf · 22/02/2019 19:49

I had a pink dress from Needle and Thread, sold as a bridesmaids dress but not too frou frou.

It was gorgeous, much more me than an ivory meringue, and about £200.

Even the alterations were cheaper because the seamstress who did it charged different rates for official wedding dresses, as they're much fiddlier.

I bought a red silk slip dress from ebay for £20. Think it was Jigsaw originally.

Job done!

itspronouncedcat · 22/02/2019 19:52

I would need something shorter, tavannach, I'm only 5'2! That model is 5'11 and wearing heels.

I was thinking tea length. Peach seems quite a safe choice, would love to be able to pull off midnight blue.

Better check asos petite then.

itspronouncedcat · 22/02/2019 19:54

What do you think of this? I found it through Pinterest, it's from a German site.

I am far from marriage! But I also wouldn’t want a fancy white dress with a veil. I hate long skirts and heels. So I’d wear something knee or tea length. Possibly in blue as it goes well with my hair. Or red as that’s my (actual) favourite colour, not a bright red but darker.

Tavannach · 22/02/2019 19:59

I think that's lovely.

toffee1000 · 22/02/2019 20:00

I like the look of that dress! It’s prettu. Others will be along to give their opinions so you can make a more informed choice as it were.
Congrats on the wedding Smile

toffee1000 · 22/02/2019 20:00

Prett-Y, not prettu. Flipping autocorrect

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 22/02/2019 20:02

That dress is lovely, very pretty.

I got married in electric blue satin, bought the material from a factory, pattern from eBay, and a friend who worked in a wedding dress factory made it for me.

itspronouncedcat · 22/02/2019 20:03

I'm not entirely sure that the site is legit to be honest!

Fifties style dress from Vivien of Holloway with petticoat underneath. Has the wow factor.

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 22/02/2019 20:05

Lindy Bop have some gorgeous dresses in 50’s style

Justkeeprollingalong · 22/02/2019 20:06

Gorgeous!

Crunchymum · 22/02/2019 20:06

Very pretty dress.

I'd probably go for some kind of tulle skirted tea dress? I'll find some pics.

I wore a dress from ChiChi for my wedding last year.
It was this style/shape (but a different pattern) and they have several similar but the pattern is different.

I actually ordered quite a few dresses from this shop - some were gorgeous (and some were hideous) so can be a bit hit and miss. There are loads of lovely designs to choose from - maybe worth a browse? I also like these...

Looking forward to getting to wear mine again one day - one of the bonus's of it not being an 'obvious' wedding dress

Knackeredmommy · 22/02/2019 20:12

Asos have some beautiful bridesmaid dresses.
