Things I don't do (or rarely) that other people seem to do a lot

Squickety · 22/02/2019 16:33

Bottomless brunches
Theatre and west end shows
Skiing
Fancy afternoon teas
Girls nights out
Hen dos abroad

Fancy dress parties
Spa days / massages / blow dry / nails done
Days out for sporting events e.g. trip to Wimbledon, going to watch the rugby

I'm basing this on what many people I know on Facebook seem to do with their time. I feel like maybe I'm missing out on stuff. Or maybe not. I'm not sure, whenever I do these types of things I never enjoy them as much as I think I'm supposed to.

What do you not do that everyone else seems to?

I'm having quite a boring day obvs to be musing over this!

Shopping as a hobby/social activity rather than based on need.

Squickety · 22/02/2019 16:40

That's a good one...I don't do that either!

Grabbing a coffee.

dontknowwhattodo80 · 22/02/2019 16:46

Go to the pub - I'm tee total and DH only drinks occasionally

Spa days/ having nails done etc. I only have my hair cut every so often and I have that done at home! I had my nails done for my wedding 11 years ago and hated it. Never been on a spa day, although did go on a weekend away with DH to a spa hotel and liked the pool

ScreamingValenta · 22/02/2019 16:46

I've never done any of the things on your list, OP. I don't even know what a 'bottomless brunch' is!

My 'best' one would probably be going to the hairdresser. I last went to one in 1989.

I've also never had my nails professionally manicured.

DarlingNikita · 22/02/2019 16:47

I've never been skiing (IMO it's for people with more money than sense) and fancy dress parties are one of the circles of hell as far as I'm concerned.

I don't go social shopping these days, although I did used to.

I live in London and hear a lot about people going for day trips or short breaks to 'get out of London', which I never feel the need to do myself; in fact, if I do go out of town I'm always immensely relieved to get back!

MummyDummyNow · 22/02/2019 16:48

I don't really do any of them, may have done a couple them in the past but by no means on a regular basis! And what's a "bottomless brunch"? Is it just an All You Can Eat type thing?

Squickety · 22/02/2019 16:50

mummy it's brunch with endless Prosecco. It's a bit of a 'thing' round here at the moment

Hiddenaspie1973 · 22/02/2019 16:50

Girlie night out
Cinema
Coffee at Costa, starbucks - never
Shopping for fun. It's a chore to be completed with military planning speed and precision.
Getting drunk.
Working full time

Wherearemyminions · 22/02/2019 16:50

I'm the same but I do like gardening, cooking, reading and knitting. Maybe I'm just old. The things in your list seem to me the sort of things people "feel" they should do and I wonder how many people really love spending their time and money on them.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 22/02/2019 16:50

jog/run/cycle 5k

Cookit · 22/02/2019 17:01

I read quite recently that “most” women in their 20-30s have eyelash extensions now and it’s just totally normal these days.
I have never done this and to my knowledge no one I am friends with has fake eyelashes either.

Redcrayonisthebest · 22/02/2019 17:02

Shopping for fun( it's a chore not a leisure activity)
Getting drunk
Getting ready (for a night out) together.
Endless BBQ's in the summer

carrie74 · 22/02/2019 17:02

I do a few of the things in your list, but if I were to post about it on FB it would be because I considered it quite a special occasion, I don't tend to post my ordinary day to day stuff on FB. So I'd post if I've gone to Wimbledon as I'm really excited to be there, and want to share that excitement with friends.

I don't think I've ever posted about having my nails done though.

Abra1de · 22/02/2019 17:03

I’ve never had hair professionally removed
Nails done
I hate girls’ night out if there are more than a few

Squickety · 22/02/2019 17:05

wherearemyminions I think that's it. If I'm going to spend 50 quid on a brunch or a massage or an afternoon tea then I want to REALLY enjoy it, and I find the enjoyment I get never seems worth the money I've spent. I will pay good money for gig tickets, or a dinner in a nice restaurant, or a stay in a lovely hotel, but only for things I really really want to do. Maybe I'm getting old too!

I do none of these things.

I also don’t
exercise
Drink wine or gin (I only drink a couple of times a year anyway)
Use public transport
Have sex

My life is a real barrel of laughs Grin

TheCanyon · 22/02/2019 17:18

I went to a all you can eat/drink brunch today. Had never been before but am on holiday where drinks are £9+ so for i think roughly 40 odd quid it was bloody brilliant.

Dont do the other things either except a yearly girls trip to the bingo/drinks.

sushisuperstar · 22/02/2019 17:24

Restaurants of any kind
Drinking
Nights out
Social gatherings
(Spot the hermit) 🙃

Jackshouse · 22/02/2019 17:27

Most of the above except for occasional afternoon tea and spa, plus hairdressers and sex (although not since getting pregnant).

Adding ordering a take away.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/02/2019 17:27

Running. Why?!

I love west end shows, a rare but huge treat. You should give it a go.

Flurgle · 22/02/2019 17:34

Never had a manicure.
Drink prosecco, in fact don’t drink.
Hen dos
Never been in a limo
Never been waxed, plucked or threaded.
Never wear heels.
Never get dressed up
Don’t make cocktails at home (see this a lot on fb)
I’m a poor excuse for a girl Grin

Ivegotthree · 22/02/2019 17:35

I've never been skiing (IMO it's for people with more money than sense)
@darlingNikita if you've never been skiing how on earth can you judge it!

It is an expensive holiday but it's sheer bloody fun from start to finish, for all ages. Exhilarating, bonding, good for you - a joy of a holiday.

I also live in London and love it but love going to other places too.

I DON'T do:
spa days (so tedious, I'd rather be reading a book at home)
bottomless brunches (IME it's younger, pre-children ppl who do this - all my colleagues in their late 20s/early 30s love a bottomless brunch at the weekend)
camping (just no)
dry January (done it before, so boring)
crafting with my children
holidays with other families (prefer just being with my lot)

Good thread OP!

museumum · 22/02/2019 17:35

Getting waxed by a stranger. Euch!!!! Can’t imsgine anything worse!

But I do loooooove skiing. And running. Any excuse to be outside in the sun but not too hot.

DarlingNikita · 22/02/2019 17:37

Ivegotthree, I reckon if I had enough money to go skiing I'd have been by now! Grin
